The Role
I really enjoyed my placement at J&J. I felt i was always supported and that i had a lot invested in my personal development. Pay was good and i was offered good employee benefits However J&J does have have a strong sense of internal politics
I often felt the work that I produced was valued by colleagues, and my good work was usually praised appropriately. However on occasions, I felt that my administrative work was taken for granted
I was given plenty of support and guidance from my management, and they always looked to find me opportunities to gain experience and develop existing skills. While i did receive feedback from my team, it was not very regular
I felt that my workload fluctuated from week to week. Some weeks i would be working well into the evenings, whereas as some weeks were much more relaxed. This meant that it was hard to judge whether it was appropriate to take on new projects or not
As I gained more experience in my role, i was given more responsibility. This continued to about month 8, where this started to plateau, but was always at the right level.
The skills i learned here will be vital for my degree studies, as well as for my later life. My understanding of how businesses operate has dramatically increased, which i will be able to feed back into my studies. I have also gained confidence skills, especially around senior members of staff
The Company
The atmosphere was generally quite casual, and the majority of the staff were very friendly and pleasant to be around. However there was often a sense of workplace politics, which was often a challenge to work around.
The placement scheme was well set up, with a 2 week handover at the beginning, where you are introduced to the company, the industry and your role. There were no issues with implementing university requirements into my role
The company always has invested a lot in personal development / training. This was available for both full and part time staff, and covered a wide variety of topics, such as career development, presentation skills and cultural awareness

The Culture
Cost of living is quite expensive in High Wycombe, as it is a sought after area, with good connections with london
Nightlife is quite poor in high wycombe, but it is relatively easy to travel to the surrounding areas with better nightlife
J&J runs after-work football on a Wednesday which is quite popular. The only other company scheduled events are gym classes, but these have quite limited spaces
