The Role
It was an enjoyable and rewarding experience. The opportunity to shape the role was available based on the skills I was looking to develop which I found very useful. Time and money was invested into training me in areas that were useful throughout the year and will be beneficial in future roles.
The team were very supportive even despite being based globally. Due to the high volume of work being partaken by the team it was more of a micro management style but that suited the way I like to work anyways and when I did need support they would always be there to assist.
Support and guidance was well established with a robust handover and introduction to the role initially. General careers advice was also freely offered to help me develop skills with other future roles and career paths in mind.
There was inevitable lulls in work load but this allowed me to focus on other areas of development and explore different parts of the company I was interested in. I was never asked to work outside of working hours and never felt pressured into delivering.
I was left to progress with tasks fairly autonomously at times and was responsible for project managing my own assignment. This did give me a good amount of responsibility.
The skills I have developed will stand me in excellent stead moving forward. Due to the role I chose they are not particularly applicable to my degree but will be invaluable when entering the job world after university. Looking back the skills I have now compared to the start of the year, the two are incomparable.
The Company
The initial organisation could have been better as I only knew the role I was going into a week before the start date. However, after that it was well organised and smooth throughout the rest of the year. I think this is one of the benefits of working for a big company as you more than likely step into a previous year's placement students role.
I was signed up for multiple courses that cost in excess of £1500 in total throughout the year. This helped me to develop within the role and will be applicable to future roles I find myself in. This was also initiated well by my manager as he suggested some good courses that would be suitable.

Working from home
I am working for the company in a part time capacity next year and have applied for the graduate scheme afterwards. The company is one I would be proud to work for in the future and the support given in applying internally was really good. There are no guaranteed job offers like some other companies I have heard of though.
The Culture
There was a large group of placement students all based at the same site which led to being able to make friends quickly. This happened with colleagues less so but the few socials I did attend with them were very enjoyable. Having a large group of placement students around was more important though.
The placement was based in London which obviously added to the cost of living whilst being on placement, there's no avoiding that. However it was still very enjoyable and I would prefer to pay more and have the full experience rather than working for a tiny company in the middle of nowhere.
There were opportunities out there but it took a couple of months to find out what they were as they aren't necessarily well publicised. Once I got settled in and got to know a lot more people there was lots of things to get involved with on every night of the week
