The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as a placement student at GSK. I really like the atmosphere at work, and you can really see everyone has the same values.
I feel like as a student we were heavily integrated into the company as soon as we started, and relationships have been continually built throughout the year.
My supervisor has been amazing throughout the duration of my placement - with both work-related support and personal support.
I think the balance between lab work and office work was perfect - I always had something to do.
I feel like at GSK they really entrust you with your project therefore by the later months you are totally independent and completing you own project work.
I am amazed by how much I have improved this year in terms of my skill set. I will leave GSK as a well-rounded individual with an array of useful and desirable skills which will assist me in all aspects in the future.
The Company
There was always a good atmosphere in the office.
The whole placement was very well set up - it was constantly organised and therefore easy to pick up everything quickly.
Many different career talks to attend, lecture packages etc. Felt that I was constantly learning throughout my placement year.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I would very much like to work at GSK in the future - I was really impressed by the company as a whole.
The Culture
I've met so many lovely people while at placement. At the Stevenage site at GSK there are so many students therefore it is easy to have a good social life as well as work life.
It can be quite expensive if you want to do nice things on the weekend as I usually travelled into London, however the cost of rent was a lot cheaper than I pay in Uni so it all balanced out.
Some nice pubs, but not a lot of places to go out in Stevenage. Usually went into London.
IP Unite is a really good scheme that GSK use where they set up different events/social activities that student can go to.
