The Role
I enjoyed the environment and culture which is created at Nissan. Everyone was wanting me to succeed. There were points during my year were I found myself with not much to do and was sometimes bored at work. The social aspect at Nissan was great throughout the year, many different social events were organized and an end of year placement awards was arranged as well
I felt very valued by some of my colleagues, however not at all from others. I found that the work I was doing was very simple. However I was given a number of small pieces of work which have helped improve NVA within my team and this was really valued by my team
The Management at Nissan did everything they could to help me improve my skills throughout the year, especially given the opportunity to give a number of presentation to the managers. I felt very comfortable that I could ask any of the managers for advice when completing work, they were always happy to help
My days were very varied, there were days were I was finding that I had very little to do and would get very bored. However I had days and weeks in which I had a comfortable amount of work to complete. And some days/ weeks which were the other end of the spectrum where I was really busy.
I feel as if I was given some responsibility as I was the only person doing a couple of the day to day task. and had an individual project which I worked on throughout the year. However, I felt as if my work was always being checked and I was being constantly being overlooked
The soft skills I have learnt this year will be used throughout the rest of my life. The confidence and communication skills I have developed throughout the year I will forever be thankful to Nissan for helping to develop. I have also been on a number of training course for presentation skill and assertiveness which I will use when at university next year
The Company
the atmosphere in the office is really positive. There was always something going on as the office is shared between multiple sections. Pies and pizza were regularly brought in for peoples birthdays. Everyone with then office are very friendly and helpful. There is also a positive buzz and everyone enjoys a good chat
I think the organization of the could be improve as it seems to be varied for different people across the different departments. all placements started with a 3 day induction together and we finished the year with an IP awards evening/night out. However, between starting and finishing there was no structured or planned specific placement events or task.
The training opportunities at Nissan are really good there are a range of training courses ranging from a couple of hours to a couple of days. The course are open to everyone and I was encouraged to attend various course. Nissan also has great online training which is available for everyone to do.
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
The graduate scheme at Nissan is very appealing and it is suggested that placements have the upper hand when applying.
The Culture
I believe there was a good social scene however I didn't take part in it
As Nissan is situated in the North East between Sunderland and Newcastle the cost is relatively cheap. Student discounts are offered almost everywhere. there is also many student accommodation which means the cost of living/rent is also cheap than having to rent privately. The local transport companies also offer student tickets and passes.
I don't know. didn't really go out
There were activities arranged and offered to all staff. however I didn't know that placement could attend these
