The Role
Loved the placement and really enjoyed the experience and getting to meet other placement students too.
Built confidence when a piece of work you were working on gets used in production or everyday activities so you feel more valued.
My mentor was too busy to support but the rest of team and senior was always there for guidance and support if needed. Anyone in my section would be open to giving work and helping and supporting with any projects id be keen to show an interest in. I'd never be stuck with no one to ask for help.
Most days I had a lot on, others were a bit quieter but never really bored with nothing to do. You make your working day as busy as you'd like it to be, the more effort you put in and the more people you ask to help with, the more you'll get stuck in and end up with more work.
Some projects I felt I was responsible for a lot which was challenging but very rewarding.
A couple of projects were related to my degree but mainly just life skills such as communications, dealing with suppliers, organising etc.
The Company
I loved the atmosphere in my office and my section too, always having a laugh and make you feel welcomed. Everyone is very cheery and happy almost all of the time and I got along with everyone. Most people will be smiling and happily answer any questions you have to ask.
When I first got the job after interview there was not a lot of communication between HR and I but the current placement student and my senior would send a few emails in between which was welcoming knowing they were there before I arrived. The induction and other placement activities such as the awards day was all well organised.
I didn't attend any courses or outside scheme training but I know a few other placement students that have done. They invested their time into making the placements feel like full time employees and not just placement students by allowing a great deal of responsibility as well as guidance and support.

The grad scheme seems really rewarding and challenging. The wage seems very good compared to other company's grad schemes. The grads here at Nissan are given a lot of responsibility so a lot is achieved throughout their scheme and a lot of skills are developed which is exactly what is wanted.
The Culture
Yes, There was a very good social scheme, a lot of us placement students go out majority of weekends together and are all living nearby in Newcastle student areas. We have a close group of friends who will end up friends for life. Within work we would go together for the odd coffee break and sit at lunch each day which is nice to meet up.
The cost was quite cheap for nights out and food and drinks etc but the actual flat I lived was private student accommodation which was quite pricey. The location was perfect and central so I didn't need a car as other placement students drove and we chipped in for fuel costs which was ideal.
Night life in my section was okay, at Christmas we had a Christmas do which was great and it was great everyone showed up to celebrate. As well we had a leaving do for my senior leaving too. These didn't happen very often within my section only really big events that were happening.
Placements together were a lot more social outside work than the other colleagues. Placements spend every weekend together and going out and exploring places nearby as we all weren't from the area so it was a good opportunity to all come together and see new places nearby. Other colleagues just had the odd night out for Christmas and leaving dos.
