About You
Attended the Women @ Blackrock event in October 2018. This was a great event to network with individuals from different Blackrock teams and other attendees (especially female employees to hear what it is like as a female to work in this industry). I really enjoyed listening about the culture that exists at Blackrock and how to apply for certain graduate opportunities. I would definitely recommend
As this event was only for the day it is hard to judge. However, the event was brilliant in terms of making us feel valued by employees willing to spend their time giving us valuable and honest opinions about the work they do at Blackrock especially for females. Also about the culture and career and application advice.
Guidance and support during the Women @ Blackrock event were mainly about the application process and how to succeed in the organisation and industry as a female. the advice also included for the different application stages including the application form, video interview, assessment centre and interviews. So overall great guidance and support offered.
To be honest, as this was a day insight experience my skills haven't developed. However, MY knowledge for example on what skills are important in job application which I should try and develop for the future to help assist me in my degree studies and job prospects was valuable to gain. Also how to succeed as a female
The Company
Overall this was a well structured insight day (due to the time constraints) with a small introduction to begin with and then the majority networking. Small tables with a Blackrock employee where you have plenty of time to answer questions so due to time constraints this was a good structure insight day.
The Women @ Blackrock event was a smartly dressed) insight experience with a reasonable amount of females attending which enabled great networking opportunities. The atmosphere was nice to talk with other attendees and the Blackrock employees. I really enjoyed the Women @ Blackrock event and Blackrock worked really hard to make it friendly.
I Can't really comment on this because this was a day insight experience at Blackrock. However, they gave useful insights into what training and development opportunities are available in the different employment programs (e.g. Spring Week, Summer Internship and Graduate Scheme). This includes support to do further education, training sessions and speakers coming in regularly for talks.
Information was provided regarding what it would be like to have a full-time role within Blackrock. This includes with areas such as the culture that exists (friendly and open and hardworking), training and development opportunities which are available (professional qualification etc) and the type of work which is conducted in different departments by full-time employees.
Everything Else
This whole event was about meeting and networking with employees at Blackrock to learn more about the organisation and how females can succeed in this industry and the organisation. The opportunities were great with high amounts of networking with a small introduction at the beginning (networking could be better with more employees and slightly longer)
I would definitely recommend attending this Women @ Blackrock event to a friend. My advice to anyone attending would be to ask as many questions as you can to truly gain insight. Use the networking time wisely speak to as many different people as you can (but don't be rude by only spending a minute with some). Leave knowing if this is worth sending off an application.
