About You
Part of the Google Bold Immersion Programme July - August 2018. This was a great programme with having a mentor to help you with your CV and career thinking. I would definitely recommend as this led to me being matched to a finance recruiter as this help you gain employment opportunities.
As this bold immersion programme was an insight experience conducted virtually (did not meet my mentor as she was in Ireland) it was limited. However, I felt very valued with my mentor as she was alsways willing to help when she could. Also insight about the culture and career and application advice was given.
Guidance and support during the bold immersion programme was mainly about the application process (help with cv, cover letter and application search). This includes personal advice for the different stages including the application form, video interview, assessment centre and interviews. The majority of the guidance was good (also nice it was personalised 1 to 1 so gained some good advice to my CV)
My skills developed for example when conducting practice video interviews. However, the most useful part of the programme is the knowledge gained or example on what skills are important in a job application process which I should try and develop for the future to help assist me in my degree studies and job prospects was valuable to gain.
The Company
Well structure bold immersion programme. 5-6 meetings over the course of the programme conducted through Google Hangouts. Plan is flexible to individual needs but it was mainly 1-2 meetings CV and Application Search, 1-2 meetings interviews 1-2 meetings assessment centres. So good structure which worked well for me with some university advice also given.
Really helpful in terms of personal training and development by for example highlighting areas I should improve. 1 to 1 advice regarding my CV, Interview techniques and assessment centres. I really did enjoy the programme as I was able to learn more about what it is like to work outside of university full-time in different industries.
Significant knowledge was provided regarding what it would be like to have a full-time role with the company. They also support you in finding a job afterwards by putting you in touch you up with a recruiter in the area you think you would be a good fit in. So overall good
Good insight was provided into Google's culture that includes being open, trustworthy, hardworking. Very helpful by putting you in touch with recruiters / other employees who can help. Insight was limited because this happened via google hangouts or via telephone so would have been useful to been able to visit Google (but i think they have done this for this years programme)
Everything Else
My mentor matched me with a finance recruiter as this was the area that best suited me but still networked with me over 5-6 times. So there were opportunities to meet other employees, however, would have been nice to have visited the Google office (which I think they have done in this years programme)
I would definitely recommend this programme. My advice to anyone participating in this programme would be to ask as many questions as you can and utilise every meeting. Use the time wisely speak to as many different people as you can (ask to be put in touch with people but still keep regular contact with the first mentor. Leave knowing if this is worth sending off an application.
