The Role
My time at Atlas Copco has been life changing. I have grown in confidence through being provided corporate responsibilities and being trusted on independent projects. I have grown so much as a person and cant wait to learn more!
The company culture at Atlas Copco is amazing. Everyone is so friendly, in my role I work with lots of different teams, i'm still yet to come across somebody that doesn't value my input. It is really easy to build a support network and move forwards in your role.
I actually work in special circumstances, my manager is the GM for two offices so his time is very precious, I see him for project updates once every few weeks. However, the colleagues around me are very supportive and help me with the issues I come across.
In my position I am actually trusted to manage my own time. I used to run a main project alongside a sub-project. If i was waiting on input on my main project I was able to fall back to my less important sub-project. This made my work a lot more interesting, it also allowed me to focus on areas of the business that I thought would benefit from my input.
I was surprised by the level of responsibility I was provided with, given the size of Atlas Copco I thought I would have a lot less influence. As people get to understand what you are doing for the business they believe more in you and will ask you to do bigger tasks. A lot of my major projects came at the end of the placement.
Second to none, the knowledge that I have gained on both a theoretical and practical level is incredible. All you need to do is ask for training and so long as it is applicable and it makes sense for you to take part the business will never stop your development. Training is always encouraged at Atlas Copco.
The Company
We have a really large office made up of three floors, with plenty of different divisions of the business working there. We have a really diverse working community and we work using ABW spaces. (Activity based working) this means that we move around the office based on the people we need to work with for the day. This really allows you to get to know people all across the business.
The YII programme at Atlas Copco was really well organised, we attended a Web chat where we were shown a little more detail about the business with a focus on what we would be doing during our year. We also attended a well run assessment centre, probably the friendliest and most laid back of the three I attended.
I was actually sent overseas during my year here. This was an independent trip and I really learnt a lot during my time in the Netherlands. This was not an experience I had expected when starting my placement so I was a really pleasant surprise when I was given the offer!

I would love to work for the business again. Its huge, there are so many opportunities internationally, the people I have met and the gratification I have had from this job has really cemented my passion for Continuous improvement. When a business looks after you it is always nice to give something back.
The Culture
I actually lived at home for the year during my placement. However, Atlas Copco do encourage us to meet up outside of the office so we actually started playing in a 6-a-side league. This was a lot of fun and we have stayed in touch since.
Unknown, I lived at home. From what I hear from the others they would go to a pub quiz on a Monday and there are other bars/clubs around the area to do the same. Hemel is also really close to places like St Albans, Watford and London so if you do want to do something a bit more extravagant you might have to travel further afield.

Yes we were given lots of opportunities, pub quiz, games nights, escape the room, Xmas party, Inflatable 5k. There is always something going on around the office. We had a year in industry group chat so it was really easy to organise nights out.
