About You
I really enjoyed the BP Discovery Day. The day was filled with activities and really useful for planning a future career. It is really useful for anyone thinking of a future career in oil and gas. Especially good for those studying Chemical Engineering or associated careers. All the staff running the event and speaking to students were really helpful and friendly.
Everyone was more than happy to answer any questions and were enthused about telling us about their career. They were open to people messaging them questions after the insight day and no question was stupid. They were really keen to give their honest opinion about working for the company and talked openly about their experiences. I felt very valued.
There was a lot of support offered by the challengers and experienced colleagues. They were open to talking about their experiences and offered a lot of guidance. There was also an assessment and application talk in which guidance was offered on the various tests BP use as well as assessment centres and application forms.
There was a big emphasis on interview skills and developing skills for future careers. We were taught the best method to answer interviews and also what to look out for when structuring answers. We had practice interviews with the other people on the course based on methods. The information received is very useful if thinking of applying to BP.
The Company
Very well structured. There was a program from 9:30 to 4:30 with regular breaks for food including breakfast, lunch and snacks. There was a lot of sessions and each lasted long enough but not too long. The day had a wide variety of activities with speed networking to talks about BP progress.
The atmosphere was really encouraging and positive. Everyone was very friendly and happy to help. The people on the insight programme were friendly and engaging and it made for interesting conversations with various members of the company. The employees of BP genuinely wanted to talk with us and had interest in our thoughts.
The firm paid for our expenses and also seemed genuinely interested into our personal development. The whole program was just about giving us advice and helping us explore numerous careers and how to apply successfully. Whilst we didn't see the investment in us necessarily it was clear that BP invest in the personal training and development of their employee.
It helped us understand very well. This was through day of the life talks and speed networking events where the employees talked candidly about their experiences and day to day life. The employees spoke from numerous fields and also talked about the things outside of work that BP provide giving us a good picture.
It helped us understand the company culture well. They put great emphasis on the 5 core values. Respect, courage, one team, safety and excellence. This really helped us understand company culture and what BP cared about from their employees. By speaking candidly to employees it taught us what made a successful challenger.
The content of the day helped me realise what fields I would be interested in and helped me change my mind as well. I decided that I would like to apply to BP but changed what I wish to apply to. I was set on applying to BP before but now I am even more enthused.
Everything Else
There were plenty of opportunities to network and meet other employees. There was a speed networking session and an informal networking lunch.
