The Role
I enjoyed the internship a lot, and met lots of amazing people which made it even better. Only downfall was occasionally the workload was too much.
Varied between people. Some I felt valued immensely. Some people made me feel like I was worthless and my opinion didn't really matter because I was a 'student'
Supervisors were always on hand when and if I needed any help. Couldn't have asked for any better
Varied throughout the year. Im the sort of person who likes to be quite busy and feel 'needed'. But on occasions I was too bored or too busy so ended up working some more extreme hours during some weeks.
I had my own project which is now an official project within the team and I also played some large roles within other projects within the team.
I think the nature of my placement probably training wise I didn't learn much. But on a personal level ive learnt a lot to take into later life.
The Company
Obviously a balance. But the office can be great fun and we have a lot of laughs and go on team days out to bond and have fun. But of course when things are busy or on occasions its definitely more quiet when everyone gets their heads down.
I think at the beginning it wasn't too organised. When you start a job in July and then everyone is off on holidays or just busy it can be difficult to get the information and start that was needed. However, once all the relevant information and training was given everything ran pretty smoothly.
There are definitely opportunities to develop personally. But I think it always comes down to budget and time and resource first. But my needs were always put first if I asked for something or wanted training or to find out about other things. Theres also the opportunity to do an exchange within the company and see different job roles within GSK
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
I would definitely consider it as I have massively enjoyed my year and Ill be sorry to leave many of the people. But due to the current internal politics surrounding the GSK Consumer Healthcare merger with Pfizer, I don't know what the company will look like by the time ive left uni and so I cannot guarantee whether I would come back or not. But if they offered me one I would definitely take it
The Culture
Yes there is plenty of opportunity to arrange socials with either students or colleagues. The students on this site organised a meal/pub outing almost weekly and occasionally we'd organise other events with other nearby sites. Colleague wise there were a few events throughout the year which I would definitely recommend.
It is a rather expensive area and so going out this near to London can be expensive. So can be rent but if you live slightly further out and travel in it massively reduces the costs. But you have to expect the large prices in this sort of area.
Not very much nightlife that closely. But if you travel a bit further or into London there is much more going on and the whole world is at your feet. But there are plenty of pubs around if youre looking for a calmer night out.
Bar social events there wasn't really anything. Depends what the question is asking. As a site it is quite a social site so there is plenty to do. But if youre talking about more sporting type activities etc then nothing has been offered to me unless I have missed out on stuff.
