The Role
Really enjoyable experience working in a large charity.
The work I did was really appreciated.
Good support and help when you asked for it.
Always had work to do (ongoing projects) but got the opportunity to do other things with the charity as well e.g. fundraising activities.
The transferable skills learnt on the job including written communication, communicating with other members of the department, building relationships and general office experience.
The Company
Very welcoming and friendly.
The internship scheme has been going on for a numberof years now so they have pretty much perfected it!
We were given CV and cover letter training and I personally got feedback about my CV and cover letter when I was applying for a graduate scheme at another organisaiton. We also had helpful meetings with our mentor in which we discussed our progress.
Company Parties/Events
Being able to say that I worked as a volunteer at such a large charitable organisation for 3 months will look fantastic on my CV. Also, the skills I have learnt and contacts I have made should be very helpful in my job applications in the future.
The Culture
I made some amazing friends on the internship. We had lunch together everyday and went out on a number of occasions. We have already organised a little reunion for after christmas!
I commuted from home so I didn't have living costs. However, the travel costs were unbelievably expensive!! The times that we went out for lunch and for drinks were quite expensive, but this is typical for anywhere in central London.
We mainly just went to a few bars and pubs, and there were plenty near the building where we worked.
There were lots of opportunities to get involved in fundraising activities. The interns even set up some fundraising ides ourselves. We also got to go to the annual quiz and department christmas party which were really fun. There was also the opportunity to volunteer at events including balls and sports events.
