About You
Thoroughly enjoyed getting to experience the different departments even though I was only meant to be in development. Great bunch of people and always happy to help with a task or explain. Going out on multiple site visits and inspections was a great way to get to know the area and people who work here!
I felt people always made the effort to make me feel valued. Everyone came over to introduce themselves which made me feel comfortable in the office environment. producing work which was going to help people in my team made me focus on the task in hand and really try and produce something of value for them.
I always felt I could go to someone and ask for help even if they weren't in the same department as me. Everyone was happy to help and would always make time to explain information to me even when they were busy. Each piece of work I produced was reviewed and feedback given which was incredibly beneficial to myself as I could then change future pieces to be better.
The work I was completing will be directly transferable to my final year at university. Gaining an understanding of Report writing in valuation and planning appraisal will be a skill that will benefit me hugely when I come to complete reports at university. The best part was the feedback I have received and will use to improve my University work next year.
The Company
There was always an opportunity to get involved with different aspects of departments. I was given a base of work to continue working on, but when the opportunity to go out of the office on viewings/inspections I was always invited which has opened my eyes to all departments. I never felt I was short of work and I never felt I had too much so there was a great balance.
The office had a great atmosphere. Everyone was friendly and would take time out of their day to come and check how I was getting on. Also, the majority of departments would try and include me in site visits and other work in order for me to gain more of an understanding of their day to day roles.
I really felt like people wanted to help me and develop my market knowledge in a number of sectors. even though I was sat in development a number of departments would invite me on site inspections/viewings which helped me gain an understanding of what different departments do. Also, people were always happy to explain and help me understand if I wasn't sure on a piece of work.
The insight has helped me hugely. Previous to this, I had a few weeks work experience but nothing of an extended period. Now having completed the month I really feel I have a better understanding of how the property world works and what would be required of me when I come to work.
The company culture was clear from the beginning. People are always happy to lend a hand even if they are busy. This, along with the social events after working hours made me feel very included into the office. It also portrayed the company as one that is hard working but also up for a good time!
Previous to the internship I didn't have a clear path as to where I wanted to be. My experience in the development team and gaining some agency and planning experience will be vital when I come to decide exactly what I want to specialise in upon completion of University. Im sure it will all help me decide!
Everything Else
There were multiple opportunities for me to network with people outside of Savills. Whether it be through social events or sports events I always felt like the opportunity was there to get involved and always felt included. there seems to be a wide array of opportunities that anyone can get involved in.
The networking events were great fun and a good way to meet new people. I always felt included and that people wanted to know more about me and what my future plans are. It was great to hear about other peoples experiences and how their career path has worked out.
There are a number of opportunities that have been explained to me in which employees can partake in. the wide range of activities seem to cater for everyone and aims not to discriminate. they all seem inclusive and a great laugh which I hope to get involved with in the future.
Yes I would certainly recommend this insight to a friend. I have learnt a huge amount not just from the work but from the people in the office and from other firms. it was a great way to gain experience of how the market works and being able to apply theory gained from University was a great benefit.
