The Role
I enjoyed it a lot. It has been a fantastic experience overall.
I found the work environment to be highly collaborative and encouraging. At work my colleagues valued my input and were always there if I needed assistance (and vice versa). Many have become true friends of mine.
My supervisors were great. They always made sure I had everything I need to succeed. They have given me fantastic guidance and advice throughout my placement.
I was rather busy on a daily basis due to a busy project. However, part of this was my own choice and I could have dropped a few things to free up time if I wanted to.
This is another aspect to complement my supervisors for. I was given the opportunity to take full ownership of my project. I was able to put my own ideas into practice and drive the direction of the project (of course in discussions with my supervisors).
I have developed and invaluable skill set ranging from technical expertise to crucial "soft" skills. I now feel more than ready for my next career step (PhD) and I am sure my experience here at AZ will serve me in good stead.
The Company
The atmosphere was great. People are very friendly and always up for a chat. Plus there is a lot of cake going round!
From start to finish it was very well organised. Onboarding was smooth, placement itself was well structured and there was support available throughout if required.
There were plenty of opportunities for further training and personal development. However, several of these courses required payment and the budget was mostly reserved for full-time employees rather than placement students (e.g. present with confidence course).

Working from home
Very appealing. After completion of my PhD I will definitely keep an eye out for potential job opportunities.
The Culture
Yes, we did socialise quite frequently. We all got on very well.
Living costs in Cambridge are definitely on the expensive side. However, as students there are plenty of discounts available to take advantage of.
Considering the size of the city, the nightlife was adequate. There are a few different places to choose from. However, I have seen better nightlife in other UK cities.
I think that is really up to the individual. I guess if there is something in particular you want to get involved in you would most likely find options for that.
