About You
Really enjoyed my Vacation Placement, got involved in a variety of different tasks in the Commerical Department. Everyone was very friendly and approachable and keen to help me get involved. There were also a variety of fun social events that I enjoyed going to and getting to know people.
I did feel valued during my Vacation Placement and a variety of people were very open to letting me join them on calls and talk to me about their work etc... I was given tasks by a variety of people.
I was allocated a buddy and a supervisor who I had regular catch ups with to talk about my progress. They regularly checked that my work was going ok and explained things to me when I asked.
I enjoyed seeing how my academic studies of law were put into real-life commerical situations throughout the duration of my placement. I developed a variety of skills as attempted many taks that I had never done before. Additionaly i recieved feedback on tasks which was helpful.
The Company
The insight was well structured, with an induction day in London where all Vacation Students were introduced to Pinsent Masons and told what to expect during out placement. There was regular socials and events for us to attend.
I general atmosphere was good during my insight, everyone was very friendly and open to talking. I felt comfortable aksing questions and talking to other people in my team. Everyone was very approachable and not scary at all!
The firm invested in me by giving me a buddie, who was a trainee and a qualified supervisor. I had regular catch-ups with them and they gave me feedback on my work and how I had been doing generally. Furthermore, the Induction Day was a good way to learn about how the firm in investing in me and the opportunitis that they were going to provide over the placement
As the placement was two weeks long, I felt that this was a good amoun of time to really get a feel for what it would be like working in the team that I was put in. Additionally the regular socials meant that I got to know a variety of people and get a feel for the general atmosphere fo the firm.
It definitely gave me a good understanding of the company culture as the values of the firm were talked about a lot on the Induction Day and by various people in the firm through the course of the placement. Furthermore, the assesment centre in the second week of the placement required us to have thought about the company culture.
This was very helpful for me as, as the placement was two weeks long I was able to get a good feel for the day-to-day life of a lawyer here. I really enjoyed the experience and therefore it has definitely confirmed that I was like to pursue a career in this area.
Everything Else
I was paid a good amount for this Vacation Placement. We were also required to travel to London for an Induction Day and our expenses for this were covered by the firm. We also recieved pay for 1 days holiday if we had not taken this.
There were opportunities for networking and meeting other employees throughout the placement. During my placement, it was the Birmingham Office Sports day and this was a really good opportunity to meet lots of different people from different levels and teams in the firm. There were also a variety of office events and team events for me to go to.
The social opportunities were a really good chance to meet and chat to new and different people. We had a Vac Scheme social that was a Cocktail Making Masterclass and this was a good way to chat to trainees in a relaxed environment. There was also a lunch for Vac Scheme Students and Trainees on the first day in the office, which was also a good way to get to know people
I learnt a lot on the Induction Day about the different networks that exist at this firm and that all employees are encouraged to get involve in. Additionally there was firm netball and football matches taking place on some evenings durin ghte placement that some people were able to get involved in.
I would definintley reccomend this experience to a friend. The placement was packed full of different opportunities to meet people and I felt that I got a good feel for the firm. Additionally, I undertook a good variety of tasks and learnt a lot of new things about the realities of Commercial Law in practice.
