About You
I enjoyed networking with the students that attended the insight day as well as hearing about existing employees’ experience at the firm so far and why they have chosen to stay there for as long as five years. It is evident that there is a great culture at the firm.
The graduates and managers were very eager to answer our questions and they gave very enthusiastic comprehensive answers to the varying queries. Also, outside of the insight day, I had trouble finding the toilets and I was politely directed by an employee without even having no to ask which is nice.
The Company
The insight day finished at hour and fourty five minutes early and a session was missed out and we were not informed of which one and for what reason. We were told that an insight day had happened the day before so they should have had a rough estimate in regards to timing.
Everyone got a long very well despite the fact that most people had just met but coincidentally, most people took the same subjects and were roughly at the same level academically so there was a lot to discuss and a lot of commonalities. The host of the insight day was also very friendly.
We were shown the application process and how to be best prepared for certain aspects of the process and what website was best to use to practice the tests we would have to undergo to progress through to the interview stage. We were also shown the difference between a good video interview and a bad one.
The benefits given to employees who gain a role at the firm are unlimited and the firm works around what is best for each individual which I think is very respectable. Similarly, you would only have to work standard hours usually which is different to most of the bigger firms.
They really like to get engaged with each other within the firm which exactly matches their values of teamwork and supporting each other as they have their own initiatives such as ski trips and football tournaments amongst other branches nationally which is very different to other firms of their size.
It was very helpful as although I would like a standardized work timetable, I do really like the idea of a good work culture as you spend the majority of your time there so wherever I end up, I know that I would want work life to be very enjoyable.
Everything Else
I definitely think that travel should be paid for or reimbursed as I was quite shocked that such a large firm would not reimburse travel as many others I have been to in the pass have done so and for someone who lives outside of London, travel can be very expensive.
There were opportunities to meet people in the firm and ask questions about their role and the company overall including our individual concerns however, this should have been on an individual basis as it felt very impersonal. Similarly, there should’ve been a more diverse range of employees who were more knowledgable.
