The Role
My year at Co op was such a great experience, from the responsibility I was given to the welcoming, warm and friendly attitude of everyone who works there! I enjoyed all the projects I was given and the challenges that I had to overcome has made me ready for my final year.
The team I was in was caring and friendly, they always helped me if I was struggling and i’ll be sad to leave which shows how much we have become close with each other over the year working there.
Very supportive and the feedback was constant throughout with quarterly reviews to have a formal meeting on my progress. This was the Co op’s choice and not forced upon by having to do separate ones too for my uni assignment.
Very busy and often have to do more hours than required.
A lot of responsibility was given with support from my manager. I was able to lead product development ranges after shadowing for 6 months.
The skills I have gained are invaluable and will help me so much for my final year. I have learnt the end to end process of product development and by being there a year, it meant I was able to fully learn the role of a developer and see if I liked it enough to know that was what I would like to do in the future!

The Culture
There were 16 undergrads workings on placement there too and we all started on the same week. This meant in our induction programme we were all together for the first few weeks and we were encouraged to have lunch together so we got to know everyone really well. Before the placement we were set up in a WhatsApp group so we were able to organise accommodation in Manchester together. This was helpful as a lot of us were all from different uni’s so we didn’t know anyone. This made finding houses together easier and we can travel to work together. The undergrads would organise meals and drinks after work so we definitely made the most of still being students in Manchester!
Relatively cheap for a house in Manchester in quite a student area. Lots going on as we were close to the city centre.
Great night life in Manchester.
Not really activities and get together organised outside of work. The undergrads organised more ourselves rather than Co op offering opportunities.
