The Role
The work was challenging and enjoyable. Colleagues were very friendly and used to working with interns. Atmosphere among interns was good.
Colleagues always appreciated the work I was doing and spent time talking about it with me.
Supervisor was very helpful and always on hand to ask questions.
Had multiple projects to balance which always left me with something to do. Communication with supervisor ensured he understood my progress and didn't expect too much.
I was given responsibility for 3 individual projects but always had help from supervisors if I needed
Was well trained using new computer programs and in the laboratory. Lab skills were useful back at uni. Developed report writing skills and presentation skills which were both useful in the future
The Company
Office atmosphere was generally relaxed and friendly. Occasional group curry and pub visits.
Rolls-Royce regularly do internships and as a result were very organised.
Learnt a lot of new skills and completed some taught courses.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Got an internship with them the following year.
The Culture
Interns stayed in university halls of residence and there was always a good social scene with pub trips, clubs, cinema, restaurants etc. At weekends interns went to Alton towers, did go-karting and arranged many other activities.
Costs were generally quite reasonable.
Nightlife was good. Only 10 minutes walk from the centre of Derby which has a range of restaurants, pubs and clubs.
Interns organised a lot of activities among themselves including alton towers, cinema and go-karting. had Rolls-Royce annual intern football competition which was good fun.
