    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The vacation scheme was fantastic. The entire firm was interested in us as individuals and everyone went out of their way to make us feel part of the business. TW also spent a lot of time and money on the resources, social events and training sessions provided. The culture was exceptionally inclusive and diverse which made the experience insightful, fun and dynamic.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt extremely valued during the scheme. Anyone I interacted with, or contacted, made a significant effort to schedule time to speak with me. For example, business development, partners, associates and trainees all made time to discuss my presentation, probono or department work with me, as well as sharing their own experiences and providing constructive tips on how to excel on the vacation scheme.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I received a great deal of support during my time at TW. Both my supervisors were fantastic and committed to me doing as well as possible. Graduate recruitment were extremely accessible, approachable and friendly and were readily available to discuss any issues with. Equally, the partners all took time to explain their career paths and how I could achieve something similar. The trainee buddies were also really genuine and supportive which I think it ultimately a reflection of the culture.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • For me personally this isn't really applicable to my degree as I have already finished. However, it has contributed greatly to my understanding of transactional vs regulatory legal advice. I have developed a greater understanding of the different skills required for each job and also understand the unilateral function of Tax for all departments. Also, working in the Private Equity department, helped me gain a good understanding of the company I currently work for as it is owned by a PE fund. Exploring the balance between the in-house legal and external was really insightful.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Extremely well structured. We were provided with comprehensive schedules that meant we had 'Focus On' sessions for all the major departments. Equally, we were allotted specific presentation preparation time and notified in advance of any social events. This meant we could structure our time well. Also, we were notified of our departments before hand. This enabled us to prep sufficiently before the scheme started.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Excellent. The culture of the firm, as advertised, is exactly how I found it to be in practice. There is a very flat hierarchy and a lot of cross departmental and cross functional interaction. This, in my view, contributed to a great deal of mutual respect which was then transferred to the vacation scheme students. Everyone was friendly, funny and very smart.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • My supervisors contributed significant time, explaining, reviewing and answer any questions I had surrounding work. I felt supported and empowered to do a good job. Six partners took me for coffee for at least half an hour each. That is a significant effort from senior team members to encourage and inspire vacation scheme students like myself. The firm also provided access to significant support in other aspects such as resources for the presentation and networking and social events.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I thought it provided a comprehensive insight into the culture. Sitting in two different teams also evidenced that the culture of the firm is integrated across the board and that they recruit in line with developing their culture. I also felt that trainees were honest and explained how their work lives had changed in respective departments.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I think my other comments have explained this comprehensively. I believe that the insight evidenced that the firm is friendly, focused and fun. But also extremely hard working and supportive of one and other. I felt that if I was lucky enough to receive a training contract offer that I would be extremely supported.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • (Two Weeks) It was really good. Personally, I have always thought I would enjoy being a talent/ training partner in the long run and the focus on young lawyers succeeding at TW reassured me that that path would be readily available if I worked there. It was also a great insight into two types of law that I had not had exposure to before so that has further helped me decide what I do/ do not want to do.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • We were all paid equally and it was more than enough so support myself throughout the scheme. We were provided with free lunch most days and the socials were inclusive of food and drink. Therefore, the majority of our costs were living expenses and travel (which is generally the standard offer from all law firms).

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Everyone was open to meet. I met with business development, graduate recruitment, associates, partners and trainees from all different departments. Everyone was enthused to meet with you and discuss their respective roles. The firm also provided welcome drinks/ mid-week drinks/ leaving drinks so that we could network with as many different people as possible.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Excellent. We were provided with a a formal three course dinner, a night a the Flight Club with free pizza and drinks, lunch at every focus on session, welcome drinks, leaving lunch and leaving drinks. We were really spoilt and it was also a great opportunity to meet a diverse range of people.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes. I participated in probono whilst there and that was a really rewarding experience. Equally, we were told about the sports clubs, art initiatives and team work trips and department specific events. We were also told about the practical side, such as health benefits, pensions, add ons and gym memberships etc.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Absolutely. I think if you are confident, hardworking and outgoing the firm is a great fit. The level of attention given to myself as a vacation scheme student made me feel as though I would be highly valued as a trainee. I also felt that the other vacation scheme students were great. They definitely recruited people that were all engaging, friendly, funny and smart.
