The Role
I really loved how everything was organized from networking events, to training, to introducing us to our teams. The scheme under which eachintern is assigned to an analyst in her/his team and to a director is brilliant. It allows us to navigate the team and the division peacefully. Each department has also its own HR organising events and answering our questions for the summer, which is perfect because thus we personnally know them and vice versa.
Each individual, no matter how busy they are, takes its time to teach us what she/he does, whether its through formal organized sittings or informal training. They are open to conversations, coffees ... It is surprising to witness how dedicated everyone is to the summer program and to its success.
We mostly work with analysts who, even when they are at their busiest time, take so much time explaining tasks to us or helping us if we have a few problems. Management organizes teach in session to make sure they can provide guidance whether it's on the technical aspect of the work or its soft skill one.
We do have long hours but we definitely have the opportunity to leave earlier. It might be specific to the team I am in, but I mainly stay to ease the workload of analysts who usually stay the longest. Besides, we are busy but it is not too much since we have usually manageable deadlines and when we have too much on our plate no pressure is added. We are kept busy in a good way I would say, we don't see the day passing by.
I would say as much as we can take ? Of course the job of a summer intern is a lot of powerpoint formatting however if we come up with suggestions, with ideas on how to improve a document or an output, it will definitely be taken into account. And the more you suggest the more you are given responsibility.
Definitely the social skill will help me beyond my internship. It taught me to be proactive, to not be affraid to talk to people. It is actually something that will help improve the quality of my work as well as my team's.
The Company
The team I was in had a wonderful atmosphere, very young and driven. Directors are sitting among us and it never feels that hierarchy is something taken to an unhelthy extent. Of course a few people are more talkative than others but everyone has been respectful and considerate which I appreciated a lot since I was really nervous.
This whole experience has been quite flattering. We really do feel that we are taking part of a highly regarded program, even before starting the actual internship. We have meetings with heads of divisions and CEOs, networking events, voluntary work that are constantly organized. Besides, those events are really respected by bankers who are informed in advance so it does not impact our work or our organisation.
They have invested a lot with a whole training week before starting the internship (which has been highy appreciated especially !) ans it keeps going while in place with formal ones and trainings organised by bankers themselves to explain to us what they do, and this even if we do not work in their team !
I would love to get the offer !
The Culture
Everything is done to do so. Even if competition can be felt (even though we are not in one !). But the VAST majority of interns is actually wonderful, really bright people you would enjoy to work with on a daily basis.
The area is very expensive, but since social events were constantly organised within Citi, they managed to lower the cost by A LOT !
Don't really enjoy Nightlife in the first place. So my rating my not be relevant
The opportunities are there, but since it's a short period of time I chose not to consider them and stay at work longer.
