The Role
I have really enjoyed my time at Citi. I was given challenging task with plenty of support from my team, in a very inclusive and friendly environment. Highlights have been the many social activities organized by HR in which I could network with seniors and people from other departments as well.
I felt quite valued by my colleagues, especially since I was given important responsibilities since day one. Also, the team did their best in creating an inclusive environment with the newcomers, and invited interns to many social events, were we felt friends first and colleagues second. All the seniors were also committed in making sure we were having a pleasant experience.
My team was allocating quite a lot of time to explain me new tasks, even though they were usually very busy. I realized it was important for them to develop strong skills during my internships. The company also structured a buddy system, so that since day one all new interns could rely on someone outside of their team for any question or advice.
On a daily basis I tended to be quite busy, but with a lot of ups and downs. However, even when I was not asked to carry out some tasks, there were plenty of things to use my time, such as all the case studies and models provided by the team,
The level of responsibilities was okay. Given the high importance of the bank's reputation, all the contacts with the clients were handled mainly by analysts and not interns. However, we had to create many inputs for clients presentations on which the team trusted our work. So all in all I felt a good deal of responsibilities.
What I learnt during my internship has been extremely valuable to pursue a career in finance, especially in Investment banking. I had a great exposure to financial modelling, excel and power point, which is useful in many industries. Also, I developed strong team work skills, which are useful in any university project as well.
