The Role
Very much liked the environment, the people, and the tasks assigned. Great place to work for 10 weeks to gain a good exposure to the financial services industry but also in a top tier bank.
To some extent. The project is really quite individual and I only really have contact with the setters of the project when I have questions or when we have to receive feedback. However, the project is real and the work will be implemented into the business so this definitely accounts for some value.
Good extent. Whenever I have or had questions, someone has always been around to answer it.
Non-stop! I was either learning new techniques in python or I was doing the project so I always had something to do. Aside from the project, I have been busy networking when possible.
A large responsibility as my project is due to be implemented into the business on completion to improve one of the business processes.
A large extent. Python is always a valuable tool for programming, design and data analysis; the last of which will most definitely be of use to me for my final year project, and in most technical occupations in the future!
The Company
Quite relaxed but I was on the trading floor so there is always that element of pressure that you might not get in a slightly more relaxed part of the building or in an entirely different company.
Pretty well overall. Plenty of presentations, networking opportunities but enough time also to get your actual work done. I think some more technical training at the very beginning would be beneficial to my placement though.
A lot. External speakers, networking sessions, events after work, and of course a good salary all motivated me to work hard and learn as much as I can within the time frame of the internship.
Very appealing. If I get a return offer I will join the graduate scheme.
The Culture
Definitely. We are not just colleagues but family too, we are all there to help each other but also to enjoy social time together after work, etc.
Not too high for me luckily, as I live at home and commute. However, for social events, bars, pubs and local shops, it is a bit of a strain on the wallet so if renting as well, I can see it being a little financial burden.
Have not really experienced 'nightlife' per se, but afternoon drinks after work are good, and the local pubs are nice.
Always opportunities if you make time for and put effort into them. Football amongst interns, social times during lunch, other hobbies. There is always time to do what you want to do if you work hard during the hours you are meant to be working.
