The Role
The internship was extremely enjoyable as I got to see the inner workings of one of the largest financial institutions in the world and was involved in a lot of client interactions. The training week at the beginning of the internship was a great opportunity to meet other aspiring students and build an international network.
The team was very welcoming right from the beginning. I had very close contant with the analyst who I was working with and it was easy to go to him to ask for advise on anything that I was not sure about. Also senior staff always had time to chat.
I had a lot of support from the senior staff as well as analysts who were supervising my work. However, to get the support I needed to be active in asking for it which teaches a lot about being proactive which is a very imporant skill to have withing a big organization.
Most of the work was regarding projects for the team that had been decided before the internship started. Thus, I was able to decide myself at what pace I wanted to work on them as the deadlines were always at least a week away. Most day were around 9-10 hours from 9 to 6-7.
I felt that the team gave me a lot of resposibility and freedom around the tasks that had been given to me. Also I was able to participate in a lot of client calls and meetings and thus saw what the client interactions actually looked like. At the meeting I was responsible for taking notes and briefing other team members afterwards who were not present.
The internship taught me a lot on top of the academic frameworks that are learned during degree studies at university. In addition I learned a lot about how important it is to build a wide network and how to use all of the resources available in a large international company.
The Company
The atmoshphere was super good at the office! People were very friendly and welcoming and it was very easy to ask a question or for help from anyone in the office.
