The Role
Now I am at the end of my placement year I can safely say that I can look back and say that I have enjoyed my time at Reed. I have learned a huge amount that I will carry throughout my career, which may even continue at Reed, recruitment company.
At first I feel it took a while for my colleagues to value the work I completed as I had a lack of office and recruitment experience however after some great training by various members of my team I was then able to create a much better image of myself within the team.
I have received various acts of support from my manager where he pushed me out of my comfort zones but then provided support and help on how I can improve. My manager has gone through an end of year appraisal with me which highlighted what I do well and what I need to improve on
By the end of my placement I was extremely busy. This is because I gained more responsibility based on the level of work I had previously completed earlier on in my placement. This step up in responsibility and work load was challenging but it pushed me to produce more and work even harder.
By the end of my placement I had been given a lot more responsibility. I already had lots of work but with newer members of the team starting after me it made sense for me to use my experience and take on the greater levels of responsibility. This was beneficial to me.
Firstly, the 40+ hour weeks I have been working at Reed will be very beneficial to me at university as it means I will have an improved work ethic. I have also developed my communication skills greatly which will be very useful to me throughout uni and even further through my career.
The Company
I work in a mega site which means there are a lot of teams. This creates a good environment as there are plenty of people to get along with and with the social aspect there will be people to get along with. The kitchen is a hotspot for meeting new friends.
The placement was very well organised by the central reed department that deal with all placements and that recruitment for that. After that it is subjective to your team leader and In my case I was the first placement year student they had ever had. After a bit of adjusting this was a good decision.
I was allowed to go to many courses up and down the country, particularly taking multiple visits to Birmingham and then an equal amount of trips to London. I visited multiple different sites in London where I did different courses such as customer service courses. These have developed me a lot.
