The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my internship at Citi. I have been given a clear idea of what investment banking is like as well as the culture at Citi. I can definitely see myself working here and my team have been extremely supportive of me and have plenty of time to explain concepts to me.
I feel very valued by my colleagues. The work I have completed I feel has contributed to the work of my team. They don't seem put off by questions asked to them and are very happy to explain. I have been given lots of responsibility from week one which is what I have been looking for in an internship.
My supervisors as well as all the other team members have given me a lot of support and guidance which I am truly grateful for! Despite their heavy workload, they always seem to have time for me and are never frustrated when I am in need of guidance and support
The work load is very cyclical in investment banking. I was given lots of responsibility from week one but also had some down time between projects. It is easy to keep busy as there are lots of training modules online to work through in your spare time in order to get to grips with DCFs and LBOs.
I was given lots of responsibility. I found in my team, if you did a job well then you would gain the respect of who ever gave you that work and therefore they would trust you and give you more work with a higher responsibility level. I found this was the case from the beginning and the team were very trusting.
I have developed my time-management skills when taking on different tasks from various supervisors. Also, I have learnt the art of prioritising my work load into urgent and important which will assist me during my final year at university where I will me juggling sports with my dissertation/tutorial work. I have also learned from my time on my internship that hard work pays off and this has incentivised me to study harder in my degree.
The Company
My team had a good rapport and were very tight knit which I liked! They play football every Wednesday which is a good bonding exercise. They seem to really enjoy their job which definitely shows and contributes to the general atmosphere. The atmosphere is something that I enjoy here and is what draws me to Citi.
The overall internship was very well organised with one week of training and then a steady stream of social events as well as a speaker series from leaders around the bank. The structure of the week has been very insightful to different areas of the bank and allowed me to chat to other divisions as well as bond with my intern class.
My team had an extra week of training which I believe is unlike other teams where we would sometimes have up to 3 hours a day of training which was very helpful as the class was smaller compared to the big training sessions in the first week. My team prepared powerpoint documents for us to take away and read.

The future employment prospects are very appealing within Citi as they really care about their workers which shows through the organisation and support I have received whilst on my internship. This is certainly an organisation I would love to work for.
The Culture
My team would play football every Wednesday and the majority would attend. There is a good social scene in Canary Wharf also with many interns going out for drinks over the weekend.
The cost of living is cheaper in Canary Wharf than in central London yet London prices are still extremely high compared to other cities. However, it is easy to cover rent due to the salary received from Citi. There is no difference in the price of socialising in Canary Wharf than other places yet still expensive compared to other cities.
Nightlife was great with many bars in the area and Shoreditch is near by.
Due to the hours of Investment Banking, it is quite difficult to get involved in activities outside of work during the week as you tend to finish quite late. However, during the weekends there are many opportunities to get involved in activities.
