The Role
So far, I am enjoying this internship program greatly. From the very first day, Citi made sure that we were all taken care of and supported. A lot of importance was placed on networking and we have a great mentor program in place. Also, I am finally able to apply everything that I have learnt in university in practice. Overall, it's been a great opportunity.
I feel valued by my colleagues to a great extent. Ever since I first set foot in the building, I was welcomed with open arms and made to feel like a part of the team. Further, I was given a lot of responsibility from day one and the door was always open for me to ask questions.
I remember my very first day here vividly. It comprised myself walking into my manager's office and asking some questions regarding the tasks assigned to me. Ever since then, I've always felt welcome to ask whenever I was in doubt and was provided with all the training material one would require.
Our days here are quite busy. We're encouraged to start with reading the latest news which might affect our work. Afterwards, we get to work on our tasks and conducting research to submit any deliverables that we may have. Despite it being busy, we all make sure to spend time with one another and communicate which adds some balance to our routine.
A great deal. From the very first week, I was tasked with analyzing certain corporates in my region which was a bit daunting at first but turned out to be an incredible learning experience. This trend continued as my team provided me with new tasks that tested my understanding of finance and skills.
Despite the fact that I am only a few weeks into my internship, I have gained skills beyond my expectations. This includes both technical and soft skills. While there is a massive learning curve, I greatly appreciate the challenge and the support that my team provides me with. Overall, I have gained a deeper understanding of finance which I am certain will assist me for the remainder of my university studies and beyond.
The Company
It's pretty lively in the office. Walking in, I was met with a team that was very tight-knit and friendly. Despite my being a new intern, everyone was incredibly friendly and supportive. The culture itself is very open, welcoming and supportive which is something that I really appreciate and feel happy to be a part of.
Since before I set foot in Citi, I was informed of the nature of my work and the expectations. Here, I was told what I was going to be doing in terms of the tasks and completion time as well. Also, we have a mid-rotation review so that we could get feedback on our performance.
From my experience, Citi by far has the most extensive training program that I have ever been a part of. The first week of the internship was solely focused on training and networking to make sure that we had all the tools to succeed for the rest of the program. We attended talks, technical training and so much more.
Flexi Time
International Travel
It is highly appealing. Interns at Citi are encouraged to work hard and perform to the best of their ability for the chance to work full-time. After bearing witness to the support and growth opportunities that we are provided with, I certainly intend to do my very best to meet as many people here as possible and apply for full-time employment in the near future.
The Culture
Being the only intern on the team, I assumed that I wouldn't get to interact with as many people as I would have liked. Turns out, I never should have been concerned due to the extremely friendly people that I work with and the lively city in which I live.
It's reasonably inexpensive here. I already had accommodation set up here so I didn't have to pay for housing. However, food and transportation here are pretty inexpensive which is great for a tight budget. For socializing, there are a lot of parks and entertainment options available to suit anyone's taste.
There aren't a lot of options here in the way of nightlife due to the conservative nature of the country. However, I know that there are exciting places within the city that are open quite late which are inexpensive as well.
Plenty. In the first week of my placement in Jordan, I was invited to volunteer at a children's event to play with them and entertain them. Such opportunities at Citi are widely available and Amman as a city has plenty of initiatives to get involved in.
