The Role
The Placement was one of the best thing happened for my career to give it a kick-start. I have been involved in a variety of projects which have provided with a huge portfolio of experience for me and learning from the experts has definitely made my placement enjoyable and worthwhile.
The smart working environment followed by GSK is a boon for all the new starters. There is a freedom of sitting wherever you want each morning which enables us to sit right next to the director of the site some days which makes us feel no different. I have asked many questions to senior people and they make all the efforts to answer it despite how busy they are.
The management is always ready to give advice and support on different projects. They make sure that they create a fine line in advising on the projects and not hijacking the project into their hands. This attitude made me feel more confident in asking any questions knowing that I will get the best advice possible without being told off for a silly question.
This really depends, because my job was more paper based and I had to do different documentations for different equipment used in the pilot plant. Towards the end of my placement the days were more busier than they used to be because I had more experience and people could rely on me for the quality of the job.
During the start of my placement I was given documents tat were low risk and low priority just to make sure that I start from the bottom and learn the important things. Later with experience I was involved in the mainstream projects which made me feel confident about the quality of work I did.
Skills that I developed while working on projects: - • Time management and prioritising • Better engineering approach in solving various things that come up every day. • Learned to research on projects before starting them • Networking has been improved considerably. • Presentation and public speaking skills enhanced. • Commitment • Self-motivation
The Company
The office atmosphere was very relaxed with the right amount of pressure for the completion of projects assigned to me. With the presence of other apprentices, I felt that I have friends who are exactly my age with common interests and hobbies. I loved the atmosphere of my workplace very much.

I have already applied for the FLP and the TDP program. I hope to get into either one of them. The employment opportunities are really good as these boost the career by leaps and bounds. There are rotations in the FLP program where I get a chance to work in different departments which will enhance my experience in the industry.
The Culture
The Nightlife was good. there are many smalls and traditional pubs around the high street. The best plan is to take a quick train to London Liverpool street which is a 40min train from ware station and enjoy the night and take the last train at 12.45pm back to ware which defines a perfect night out.
There were many opportunities to get involved like cricket, football, gym etc. I used to play cricket for the site team on Thursday after work. Football was every Thursday during the lunch time. I used to use the onsite gym which was really cheap and worth doing. other opportunities were available to raise money for charity etc.
