The Role
I have really enjoyed my placement year at Golfbreaks.com, I have learnt many skills and experiences that I value for my future career. The managers are really supportive and office environment is social and enjoyable. I have done a variety of different roles throughout the year which I have really enjoyed.
At Golfbreaks everyone is part of a team where we all help each other reach a common goal. Team work is a crucial skill that this placement year has definitely helped me develop as you work with a range of people. The office is social and this helps you get to know your colleagues better.
Managers care about your personal development over the year and set clear targets. If you feel as though you are struggling or want to develop an area managers are very supportive of this and will go out of their way to help you with this. Managers are happy to answer any questions as I had many when I first started here.
Every day is different and busy this is good as the days feel full and you learn a lot more when you have more jobs to do. You are not overloaded with work and the better you get with the job the more things you get to do, so it is well balanced for everyone.
You get a lot of responsibility at this placement which is what I have enjoyed the most. You get treated like a full time member of staff meaning you are valued as much as everyone else. As they give you a lot of responsibility it makes you want to work harder as you have work that you are in charge of.
This placement year has taught me more than University has as I have developed skills through real life experiences rather than just studies. I have developed skills such as time management, team work, communication, professionalism and confidence through the roles I have been given. The training has been invaluable for my future career.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office is friendly and sociable. They do a lot of activities to boost team morale and help teams get to know each other more, everyone in the office works together and is willing to help each other out. You feel part of a bigger thing than just your individual role.
The placement year is well set up- you have 2 weeks of training which is very helpful and well organised. You then know the plan for the next 6 months as you rotate on and off certain aspects of sales. Your manager sets up meetings throughout the year so you know when the next month holds which is great.
Golfbreaks invest in their placement students a lot. You aren't just a student, you are treated like a full time employee which makes you feel valued and important to the company. Mangers really care about your self-development and making you a more well rounded and experienced individual. They help you with anything you feel you need to develop more and make sure you get the most out of your placement year.
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Golfbreaks regularly hires past placement students for full time roles, most directors and mangers here are former placement students which shows how much they value their students and how far you can go within the company. You have the opportunity to make horizontal movements across the company which great as they like to keep people happy and utilise them where they suit best.
The Culture
The social scene is good because most years at least half the students live here.
The cost of living is quite expensive compared to university but cheaper than London but is still very accessible to central London.
The nightlife is good as there is many bars, clubs and pubs around the area.
Yes there is opportunities to get involved in sport teams and charity events.
