    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The insight was such a great experience which gave me a true insight into the way a global commercial law firm operates. Not only did we get to experience time in our allocated seats but we were also given insight sessions to get a well rounded insight into the work that the firm does.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt as though the trainees, associates and partners really did care about the work I did and any time I needed any more work they would take time out from their schedule to talk me through what was required of me. They also always asked how I was enjoying my time at the firm.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • During the internship we were allocated two seats in which we were given tasks. In both of my seats I felt I could approach any level of team member, from trainee to partner, to ask for help and guidance on any of the tasks I had been set. I was also easily able to contact members in other departments to meet with them and discuss the work that they did in their departments.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel that when I come to do the Diploma I will have a better understanding of why tasks are completed in a certain way due to the experience in the firm.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The internship was very well structured. We were fully informed about what would happen each day from the very start of the 3 week placement. There were events scheduled which allowed us to get to know about the initiatives within the firm both centrally and regionally. There were also scheduled practice insights which meant if you didn't get the chance to sit in a particular seat you still managed to get an insight into the work they carried out.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Everyone within the firm, no matter what level of seniority, was extremely welcoming and always asked me how I was getting on and took a genuine interest in me. Everyone in the firm is very friendly and bubbly and would always be willing to talk to you about their work.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • This experience definitely helped me gain an understanding into what life would be like with a full time role. I was given work which kept me busy and allowed me to see what it would be like working as a trainee within the firm. I was also able to join in on calls with other areas of the country.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The internship was a great way to get to know the company culture. The firm always had something going on and if there was something happening then we were included, whether it be an event organised by graduate recruitment or by the trainees. The company is extremely welcoming, friendly and inclusive.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The day was exactly like a day in the life of a lawyer and has only cemented further in my mind that this is the career I wish to pursue. The day consisted of work which was challenging and also fun at the same time. It has also given me an idea of the types of law which I enjoy in practice.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • During the induction week many members of the firm would network with us during our breaks. In the regional office we were able to talk to partners during a dinner at graduate recruitment and we also socialised with trainees in the evening. Furthermore, there was also opportunity to talk to members of other teams whom you were not sitting with at any point during the two weeks in the regional offices.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • I was able to network at various points during the internship. I was able to do this at formal events organised by graduate recruitment and also during lunch where trainees, associates and partners sat with us and would talk to us about their day, the work they were doing, etc.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • We had a number of sessions which were directed towards this. We were spoken to by members of different diversity and inclusion initiatives about the work they do internationally and in the regional offices. I was also able to take part in a committee call meeting for the LAW initiative. Further, the interns were able to join the social committee at their monthly meeting to discuss a number initiatives and events happening in the regional office.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend. This insight has provided me with an insight into all areas of the workings of a global law firm and how they operate. The programme was structured and the people were always happy to help if I needed them. Overall, the internship programme is excellently managed and provides a real taste of what it would be like to practice as a lawyer in the firm.
