    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The placement was very much enjoyable, it was organised meticulously by Dom and her team. The first week in london was an excellent introduction to the firm with speeches by CEO's and heads of groups which were motivational. They covered the cost of all our food and hotel which avoids us worrying about how we will finance our costs especially for students.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • The firm really spent time to take into account the diverse range of people that were on this programme. If you had prior commitments and needed to miss a day, they were very understanding and if you had dietary requirements such as vegan/nut free/halal, all this was taken into account. We had ample time to ask questions to anyone who spoke and the fact that they invested so much in this internship and paid us at the same time, speaks volumes.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Grad rec are in constant communication up until the programme and if you have any queries, they always replied back to me via the same day. During the insight a professional booklet was created with a day to day breakdown of all our events and we also had a buddy which we were put into touch with prior to enrolling incase we wanted a trainee perspective of the firm.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The professional development talk delivered by Lee will assist me a lot when I am networking, especially judging how to enter and leave a conversation and how to make an impact. This was probably the most powerful talk of them all. Further speeches by the group heads gave valuable lifestyle advice for any aspiring solicitor such as 'dont try to engineer your career' or 'pigeon hole yourself' to try to qualify to specialize in a specific area of law as you never know what you will end up liking or becoming proficient at.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Extremely well, the team are super organised. All the days were planned prior and the talks all started on time and we knew who was coming to speak so we had time to research the speaker. Over 3 weeks we were always updated on what was going on and the department we went to knew were were coming and had work ready for us.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • fun, enjoyable. Everyone is really friendly and it is a very open atmosphere here. It really helps you to be yourself when the culture promotes diversity and openness. If there was any issues or concerns, I did not feel shy to raise them as the firm was more then happy to accommodate.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had around 10-15 talks from senior leaders or staff that work in various departments come share us advice and training. We also had a buddy throughout the week to provide some sort of pastoral care and each department you had a supervisor who would mentor you and provide you with work and feedback

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • the 1st week in london provided an insight into the international feel of the firm while the two weeks sat in the respective region gives you a real insight into the type of work they do. I worked on real life cases and files with clients and go to sit into a client meeting!

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • having 3 weeks gives you ample time to speak to as many people as possible and to get as any opinion as to peoples experience of the firm. it also allows you to observe staff behavior to really allow you to understand the true culture. which is exactly what they advertised. global, open and innovative.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • very useful. especially speaking to different levels of staff from trainees, to associates, to partners to senior executive members to pro-bono staff. it allowed me to prepare to make sound decisions for my future as I had all the different angles covered by the various staff. The content was tailored to ensure it benefits us rather than the firm.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Pay is much higher than other firms and when you add up all the expenses they cover for you, the firm ends up spending £4-5k per person! The week is paid for at a rate higher than other firms, the hotels, travel and all food is paid for. During the 2 weeks in the region, our lunch was covered also!

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Many formal socials were organised, and it helped that during dinner they had a seating plan which allowed different people the opportunity to integrate and have a chance to speak to different partners. There are countless opportunities to speak to staff, you just need to be make the most of it!

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • they were formal and everyone was friendly, you had smaller ones and much larger ones. During dinner its easier to have a full conversation so the seating plan helped., And the staff that came to the socials often stayed as long as they needed and were really open and honest about their experiences.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • yes, so speaking to trainees, they mentioned all the extra-curricular activities they involved in and when we got to the region, an email was sent out listing all the sports activities on during our time there. So tag rugby, running and football were all mentioned. The trainees also spoke about their fantastic experiences of travelling together!

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • yes, it was the best programme I have enrolled on from any firm ever, it was so much fun, and useful, the only change i would make was to make it longer, as it helped me prepare for my life decisions in this sector massively. the team, staff were all fab!
