The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at Baxter and would recommend it to anyone trying to apply for one. The culture is so friendly and supportive and everyone is trying to help you succeed. When I've needed help it has been given to me and they are always so understanding.
My colleagues gave me responsibility quite early on, showing me faith in my ability and treated me like one of their own. I repaid their faith with hard work and I am certain the relationship was mutually beneficial.
If I ever needed any help, I knew I could ask, knowing I'd get the answer I needed or pointed in the direction of someone who had the answer I needed. No one was ever too busy for me when I needed them. My team always wanted me moving to the next thing, progressing and developing myself.
My workload came in peaks and troughs, sometimes I would be flat out, having loads of work to do, staying late, working in the evenings/weekends. Sometimes I wouldn't have much to do but that was okay as I had a uni assignment to do.
I was given a fair bit of responsibility. I was the main person that ZINC jobs would go through for my department and also I was given control of the CRM Update for patient numbers in the UK for all renal units in the UK. This was a huge spreadsheet that everyone in my department used and was highly valuable.
I came in to my placement looking to develop my speaking skills (public speaking, presenting etc), Microsoft Excel skills, to gain a knowledge of a business and it's industry, and to build a network of connections for the future. I can say for sure that I achieved all of my objectives.
The Company
A happy place to be, there was never really any tension or ever a bad atmosphere. I would say the office could become quite empty at times if there are big meetings going on or if a lot of people are working from home on a Friday. It's not the biggest of offices.
The placement was very organised, for the most part I always had something to do and Baxter had clear goals of what they wanted you to achieve, and get out of the placement.
Two main ways that the company invested in me were courses and field visits. I went on a few courses which helped me with my priority management, how I articulate myself when presenting, how to harness my personal impact and how to communicate better. Also visiting different renal units, seeing what I've been learning in person was really educational.

Working from home
I have had discussions about coming back in the future as a sales rep or back into marketing. It is something that I have certainly considered and potentially would like to do if the right job became available. I prospect of returning is something that does appeal to me for sure.
The Culture
Due to the rural location, the social scene was very minimal
There was a pub but that was about it, there wasn't much else going on in the area we worked. I commuted from home so I cannot comment on the cost of living.
No nightlife at all apart from the pub
There were volunteering opportunities but other than that, no much in terms of external clubs with colleagues etc. We had a few sporting activities organised by the social committee that were really fun e.g. Human Table Football and Mini Golf
