About You
For me, the insight was particularly enjoying. I got to work behind and at the counter. The staff were friendly so I knew I could approach them when I did not know what to do. The customers I met were mostly friendly also which made the job even easier for me.
I felt very valued at my time at the company as I was given specific tasks to do and had to do these tasks, as well as deal with incoming customers. This made me feel needed and very valued at the company as I had an actual role in helping them.
Initially, I received alot of support regarding the types of jobs I would be required to do and a lot of the common questions that customers ask. Nearer to the end, I got to put this into practice but I still received support when I did not know what to do or perhaps forgotten.
I think working behind the counter developed my financial skills as well as the advice they gave. Working at the counter helped me with customer service skills which would be applicable for any job that I decide to undertake. It has inspired me to do a degree in Economics and Finance.
The Company
The insight did not have much structure but this was expected as I was working in a fast-paced and high-traffic environment where requests come in on an as-an-when basis -- I could not possibly be prepared for every possible request. Therefore, for the lack of structure expected, it was still quite good.
The staff at the branch were very friendly, creating an environment where we could make jokes and have fun while working hard. This made it very easy to do the tasks also as I could trust someone else for support. This atmosphere also made me feel valued as I felt a part of the team.
I think the company did invest a lot in me as they developed my financial skills a lot when I did not have much experience prior to this. Personally, they helped develop my social skills as well which will be crucial in the future. They put a lot of effort into me and I am grateful for this.
The insight helped me understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company a lot as I felt part of the team, as if I was already part of the company. They also showed me future roles that I could aspire to get if I decided to work there in the future.
It was extremely helpful as it showed the fun interspersed with hard work and diligence that is most beneficial for such a company. Furthermore, it showed me the passion that these people have for finance so showed me that I must find this passion if I was to truly undertake this in the future.
The content was valuable in helping decide my future career path as it made me passionate towards banking and finance so I now want to do an Economics degree while before, I did not know what I wanted to do.
Everything Else
I was reimbursed travel expenses and paid a little extra on top of this.
Every day provided an opportunity to work with new staff and new employees so I did get to meet other employees of the company. However, I did not get to meet higher-level employees and I did not get to meet employees from other branches -- I only met those in the branch I worked in.
Only within the branch so cannot give a fair judgement.
I did not find out about this as we did not talk about work social life much on the job. However, the staff were extremely friendly so it would be very pleasant to engage in outer-work activities with them and would not be particularly weird at all. I would like to know more about this.
I think that, if you are even considering a career in Finance, this insight would be particularly useful to you. Even if you do not decide to pursue such after this insight, you will have gained valuable customer skills from working at the counter so you can only benefit from this experience.
