Summer Intern Review

It has been amazing, the people are very nice and always willing to help. I have had the chance to see different parts of the business in order to get the most out of my experience and learn a bit about different areas. I have also enjoyed working on the CSR challenge.

I feel very valued. When colleagues have given me tasks to do, they have always showed great appreciation to my work when I have finished it. It is good to be taken seriously and valued equally to everyone, especially on team-wide activities such as MOP calls etc. Although I am an intern I feel equally valued.

The support I have received from my line manager has been fantastic. She has been very quick to reply and taken everything I have said seriously. She has also tried her best to give me tasks to do. My line manager did not know much about the individual project all interns need to do, which was not her fault, so I think line managers in general should receive more information about the individual project.

I have had many interesting and different things to do however I have not had too much to do. The variety of the work has been great, but I would have loved to keep myself a bit more busy. When I did not have much work I could luckily work with the CSR project or individual project to keep my busy.

The level of responsibility I have been given has been moderate. I have been doing a lot of manual work such as working in Excel spread sheets which I don't mind, however I was not able to show that I can handle having a high level of responsibility. However as I am only an intern and we are only here for 10 weeks I understand that we cannot have very much responsibility.

I think one of the most important things I have improved is communication, and how this can be done in a good way in the workplace. This will definitely help me both in my final year of uni but also in my future career as a professional. I have most certainly also improved my public speaking and presentation skills.

Although people are focused on doing their own thing, I found the office atmosphere to be very chilled and people were very friendly & willing to help me whenever I needed something. I think it was a bit boring on Fridays when everyone is working from home but apart from that the atmosphere is great.

For me personally it was very organised and everything was ready for me when I was. I got a new line manager on my second day but it didn't really bother me. I have heard from other interns that they did not have an experience as seamless as mine though as they did not have NIACS cards until week 2 etc.

I think RBS is very good in terms of personal development so I have seen that there are many opportunities for employees. I have not done anything specific apart from trying to visit as many areas as possible & try shadow as many people as possible but I think RBS is really good in terms of personal training and development in general.

I think RBS is a fantastic organisation to work for. However, I don't think that students taking masters are appreciated enough. I would love to apply for a grad scheme however I am one hundred per cent sure I want to do a masters degree before I apply for jobs. I have the impression that a potential job offer would not "wait" for you if you decided to take an additional masters degree.

Yes, I think the induction was phenomenal for getting to know people. Also, the interns this year have been really good at doing social things with something happening every day. Always lunches together in canteen and always doing something after work together. I think everyone has found someone they enjoy being with.

I was at a really good level, I am studying in Edinburgh so I was very used to the level of costs of living and socialising so working in RBS and living the same place was nothing new to me. I don't know what else to write here to reach 50 words

Based on everything I have heard and seen being shared on Workplace etc it looks like RBS is really good for getting involved in things outside of work. I have however personally not attended anything like this but I definitely would if there was anything specific appealing to me and if I had more than 10 weeks here
