Service Controls Review

I have enjoyed the internship while I have been put to work, however there have been numerous occasions where I have asked for work and haven't received any. I feel like I have not been given ample opportunity to prove myself in my internship because I haven't been treated like another normal member of staff.

The people that I have been placed with have been fantastic at welcoming me into the team. There seems to be very little (though some) bad blood between team members and everyone seems to get on very well. However, I feel like other line managers entrust me with more important work than the line manager that I was designated to did.

I have been given very little support and guidance by my line manager, I personally feel like I have been delegated to one of the members of staff and have to basically do any extra work that he has that needs to be done. I had to press to get information from my line manager about the project and haven't had any 1-1 meetings scheduled with him as any attempts to do so were cancelled, instead I have a meeting with the member of staff I was delegated to

I have been given very little to do while working here, I don't seem to be trusted with the menial and tasks that happen regularly in the department I work in. I've been told it's because it will take too long to catch me up to speed with what goes on in my team but I personally believe it's because there's members in the team that have a particular way of doing things and don't want anyone interfering in that.

The little work that I have been given does have some responsibility attached to it and I was allowed to present my idea to the higher ups. However, I feel like I could do more and want to be pushed harder and given more important task within the team that I am in.

There are a lot of ways of thinking within RBS that I had not thought of before. I will definitely be taking an AGILE approach in the future when I am looking at issues or development areas as it is a very good method. It has also be eye-opening to see how much they value teamwork and cooperation through different departments.

The general atmosphere in my office was positive, though there were one or two people that did seem to bring the mood down by constantly being grumpy or complaining about something. However, on the whole the mood was definitely positive and there was a lot of light banter and jokes going around the office.

I personally feel like the way information was released to the interns was quite poor, and I know that opinion is shared with a significant number of interns after talking to them, there was a lot of "does anyone know what we're actually supposed to be doing" especially when it came to the project. However, the two induction days were brilliant.

There were a couple days spent during induction but apart from that very little personal training and development of any use.

Despite not being in the best placement, and almost certainly not the best area for my skills. I would say that as a whole I have found RBS to be a really promising place to work and am definitely hoping to accept the graduate offer, though I would be looking to change the area I'm working in and location.

The other interns working at RBS are incredibly sociable and there is something going on most days

Edinburgh is a very expensive city and probably the most expensive city that I have lived in, for the first few weeks I haven't really been able to explore the city as I have been having to watch the amount of money I'm spending as my bank account has been incredibly low.

Haven't really explored the nightlife as such so can't really comment

The other interns are constantly organising meet ups and events so there is constantly something to do while I'm here
