    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It has been and it still is a great experience. The possibility to work in a company such as Barclays has been a huge honor for me. Plus, the opportunities for us in the internship such as knowing people from different divisions and get into the graduate program are a great benefit.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone has been super nice and made me feel welcomed.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My Line Manager has been super helpful in providing my guidance through the first weeks of the internship. Both from a personal and a professional point of view I found really important speaking with him on a daily basis in order to get to know better the work and the bank itself.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • At first not a lot because I had first to study and understand the products but it has been now one busy week where I helped my VP and other senior staff to finish their work. I am using more and more both excel and power point and in the meeting I am starting to understand better the role of the product manager.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • By speaking with other interns I think I have been given a lot of responsibility. I am reviewing a product and I think this is a really great responsibility for an intern. I have been talking with people from different teams and divisions in order to exchange ideas and understand how to better the product.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think that the skills in working with a deadline, in a team and being up to date in different projects can really help me in being also a better student. Plus using power point and excel I have learnt more in office and computer skills than in years of university.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Great, people were really helpful and nice. The atmosphere was productive but also relaxed and I have never experienced any toxic job environment. The real plus with respect to other job have been the people. Plus, I think I was lucky to end up in my division as the job has a long term perspective which can really relax people as there is no need to hurry to much in the short term.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was really good. Indeed, there was the initial training and then I had other days of "study" in order to understand the products and how they effectively help our clients. Plus, weekly meeting and the opportunity to meet the MDs from all over Barclays is a really helpful thing as it can really help in understanding better the bank.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I think a lot to be just an intern for 9 weeks. Indeed, i had two days of training and then the opportunity to study both the products and the bank on the corporate banking academy that has really helped me in understanding the niche products and the whole offer of Barclays.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    International Travel

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Great, I think I want to work here starting from next year if I will have the possibility. Hopefully I will get the offer for the graduate program. This is really helpful in understanding the bank and experiencing different parts of the corporate bank that can really give me a steep learning curve in the first years of my career.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, we are more than 20 and many of us see each other after work and in the weekend. There are really nice people and it is really interesting meeting other people with totally different background than mine. Plus, having people of different nationality and university faculty we can learn new things every time we speak.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was expensive but the pay was good in order to sustain the expenses. Living it is the most expensive thing and transports too. For what concern the socializing, as going out and having a beer, not too expensive so it has been easy to meet new people also not from Barclays.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Not the best in London, but it is easy to reach other parts of the city.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, there are many networks and activities that we can apply for.

    4/5
