The Role
I'm enjoying my internship very much so far! The tasks I've been given are engaging and allow me to get involved with a wide range of areas within the bank. I am given responsibilities but I'm also coached to deal with them. The tasks I've been set are engaging and interesting.
I feel very valued by my colleagues. I'm given lots to do but they always ensure I have the necessary information to complete them to the best of my ability. My opinion is always taken into account and I have frequent meetings to discuss my progress. My input is always asked for in meeting.
I have been given a great deal of support by my manager and supervisors. Throughout all aspects of my tasks I received the correct level of coaching to allow me to complete the task as best I can. Whenever I have a question there's always a range of people ready to answer it for me.
I am usually very busy during the day, which I prefer. I'm involved in a range of activities so I've had to practice my time-management skills; I feel this is an accurate example of a real-world working scenario. Although I'm given a relatively high amount of work to do, I never feel overloaded.
I was given a good level of responsibility throughout my internship. I often helped support people working within my team and other teams, producing materials and suggesting improvements that directly affect them and their colleagues. I also hosted some team meetings, something I'd previously not had the opportunity to try.
The time-management skills that I developed will help me at university, especially during revision, as it helped me realise the value of a sensible work plan and estimating how long different tasks will take. I also had the opportunity to learn about how teams work in technology, something I'm assessed on at university.
The Company
The office atmosphere was always positive, with people communicating openly. I was always greeted with a smile, and people actively introduced themselves and began conversations with me. I was made to feel equal to other members of staff, some very senior, and I felt at ease immediately after starting.
The internship was very well organised. I always received clear instructions with regards to the work I'd be completing. I had regular meetings set up with a range of colleagues to assess my progress and discuss any feedback they had. Any tasks that I had to do were always clear.
The company invested a great deal in personal training and development. During the induction we received a wealth of information related to personal development that was useful throughout the internship. I also had time set aside with a range of colleagues for coaching and to answer any queries I had.

Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Future employment prospects are very appealing. I always felt that hard work was rewarded and that people in management positions genuinely care about their team. I enjoy the flexible working hours and the range of benefits available, as well as the high degree of support available to all employees.
The Culture
The social scene with colleagues and other interns was fantastic. We frequently had social events organised to allow us to network with other people and we were actively encouraged to participate in any existing social events. I got on well with the other interns and had opportunities to work with them.
The cost of living in Manchester was very reasonable. There is a wide range of shops and restaurants covering a range of price points. Travel within the city is very cheap and there's a wide range of accommodation available for all budgets. Eating and drinking is also on the cheaper side.
The Nightlife is very good! There's a wide range of clubs and bars to suit all people, most of which are also reasonably priced. The city is fairly safe at night too so walking home isn't an issue. The public transport also runs late which helps with the journey home.
There were many opportunities to get involved with company events and activities. The intern team were always invited to social events which were organised quite frequently. There's also the opportunity to join in with the range of sports teams, as well as some of the charity events running throughout the company.
