The Role
As with many internships my main complaint is the lack of structure and well defined tasks. This has left me without enough work to fill the day. The advantage of this internship is the potential for a position on the graduate scheme the next year and the chance to trial the company without any long term commitments.
My colleagues don't speak down to me and are very happy to help answer any questions I may have. It has been very easy for me to contact departments that I have an interest in and spend some time talking to them about what they do. Staff are very happy to set aside time for you.
My manager has been very supportive and has given me lots of mentoring. He has guided me with office etiquette and effective networking. The team as a whole were very welcoming and are happy to help me. I haven't felt isolated and always have someone to turn to if I need.
Early on in the internship there was a lot of time spent shadowing, this can only last so long and I am currently in a lull where I can't quite contribute as I dont have the knowledge to but I have learnt the basics and no longer need to shadow.
So far the main responsibility is with my time, we are left to find our own work and do our own networking. In terms of contributing useful work to the company or the team, this I have not done. You are also entrusted to been respectful with the time you take for lunch and for the time you start and end the day as we run a flexi-time system.
The main skills I have gained relate to office life and how to manage your manager etc. In terms of my degree I dont think ive learnt anything that useful as I do an unrelated subject. I have gained confidence that will be useful for my future career, I am now a more confident networker.
The Company
Very friendly but quiet. A lot of people working at their desk doing their own thing. We have had a few company wide social events which were enjoyable. My team in particular are very supportive and even have a non work based meeting once a week basically just to catch up with each others lives.
The HR and onboarding is fairly smooth. From day to day I dont feel there is enough pre-planned events. This means each interns workload is very dependant on their line manager. The IT set up could be more streamlined, it takes a few days to get a laptop and all software must be requested and can take up to a week to come. This could be planned before we arrive so we dont waste time.
With the potential for a place on the graduate scheme they are clearly investing heavily in their interns. The wage is also very good for an internship which indicates their commitment to us. Although getting software is slow they are happy to do so and dont deny access because we are only here for a limited time

Company Parties/Events
A high percentage of interns are offered a place on the next years graduate scheme.
The Culture
As Radbroke is fairly remote there is less of a social scene after work. This is down to the number of interns forced to commute in and out from work. The other interns are very friendly and everyone is keen to make friends and get stuck in to company social events.
Fairly expensive for an out of city location.
Poor the town is quiet and pubs close at 11.
Yes plenty of activities at the office. We have onsite football pitches and a gym. There is always a team to join at lunch. We also receive emails about weekly social events such as "its a knockout" day and a car show for charity. All events are keen for volunteers.
