The Role
The internship was a very enjoyable experience. It provided an array of opportunities to shine in your specific area but also to reach out to other areas you may be interested in so you can get an overall view of the bank. On top of this the culture was extremely friendly and welcoming.
I felt extremely valued by my colleagues as they were extremely friendly, always making sure to invite me to events. They also included me in meeting and all the important calls going on within the team. I was also given specific tasks to do and so I felt even more valuable as I was actually contributing.
The support given was extremely useful. We were given significant support from both our buddies, people on the graduate scheme, and also our line managers meaning we had multiple levels of guidance. They provided us with weekly chats and catch ups to make sure everything was going well and there was nothing to worry about
I was mostly busy with meetings, calls and the completing of task given to me on a daily basis. Although there was maybe some days where I felt there wasn't much for me to do, I'd say overall I was kept busy for the majority of my time at Barclays.
I felt like I was given a significant amount of responsibility during my internship. This was because I was given both personal tasks and also roles within team projects that I could solely contribute too. therefore overall I felt like I was treated as an employee and not just an intern .
From the internship I believe I gained many skills. Firstly the social skills at a professional level will be extremely useful in my pursuit of a career in financial services and also at university. I also feel that I can now understand certain concepts and ideas I may not have done originally at university.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was brilliant. It was extremely friendly and relaxing and I constantly felt comfortable in the workplace. The team were very talkative and helped involve everyone in all conversations. On top of this the ability to hot desk meant you ended up knowing a lot of people outside of your team also.

The Culture
Yes the social scene between the interns was great with many of us regularly joining up for drinks or food after work. My only issue was that this was organised by ourselves and would of been helpful if HR could've put on a few events to really make sure all interns got involved with the social aspect.
The internship was in London so it was always expected to be rather expensive. The accommodation for the nine weeks was very pricey. On top of this socialising was pretty expensive too as the cost of drinks and food in the capital can quickly add up and therefore you will find this sometimes stop people from socialising as much
Yes the Barclays intranet provided us with a platform to reach out to any societies or events we wanted too. It would be nice if there was something set up specifically for interns to get involved in but at the same time its nice to integrate with the rest of the workforce,
