Technology Summer Analyst Intern Review

It is a good place where you get real experience. I think the fact that you are placed on a team is very good. However, maybe 2 rotations are better than one. It really depends if you get a good placement straight away. It seems you can have some saying where you want to be placed though!

Quite often you feel that you are an intern, which is fine, that would be the case at everyone company. However, sometimes you feel that you add a lot of value which is great. I think the fact that you have a line manager and a buddy is very helpful to be valued.

You are supervised. It is very individual though, how much experience your line manager has from being a mentor interns previously or not. A lot of line managers have done it before, but some are new and it takes time for them as well to fully understand their role and how they should guide you.

I am quite busy every day, which is nice. However keep in mind that RBS is a 9.00-17.00 employer and you will not see those 8am-2am days that you see in IBD/Consulting at american firms. This is very good, since you will be busy all day and still go home at reasonable time.

How much responsibility you take is up to yourself. If you show that you are good, you will earn your trust which will make you excel and thrive at your team / desk. However, if you do not take any initiative at all you will not get as much responsibility.

I have developed my skills. There are also workshops and similar training in for instance excel, networking, hackathons etc. This helps you improve your skills in many different areas, not necessary only the skills you need in your team placement but skills that could be viable all around the bank.

It is really good . . . . . . . The fact that you sit around new colleagues everyday is also great since it enhances your networking skills a lot. You will meet a lot of people if you want to and the atmosphere is great! ! ! !

It is quite well organised. It took a few days for me to get on to the systems which was unfortunate. However, other than that well organised and HR really cares about you having a great time during your internship and are happy to support you in whatever way you need.

They invest a lot of money in you as an intern of course. They want you to do well and hopefully secure a spot on the graduate scheme. There are over 170 interns overall in RBS which shows how much effort RBS puts into their interns which is great. .

They are good. The jump in salary is quite high form an intern to a graduate position. Which makes you want to join full time as an intern. It seems like everyone has a really good time working at RBS, especially the grads, therefore I think a lot of people want to come back after the internship.

It is good. There are afterworks sometimes hosted by the graduates for the interns. Also there are also a lot of students coming from all over the Uk to be in Edinburgh/London/Dublin/Manchester for their internship, therefore people tend to be very social and want to hangout in the weekends and after work.

I would save the average amount you pay for a flat per month in Edinburgh is 350-470£ per month which is decent compared to other cities such as London or Dublin. This is a big plus to do the internship in Edinburgh rather than London. Most of the technology interns for instance are placed in Edinburgh.

It is good. Edinburgh is a student city and has a lot of pubs that you can go to after work or during the weekends. Even though a lot of students go home during the summer time there is the fringe festival during whole August which is a big plus.

I have not been very active in different societies at RBS outside of work. But I have heard other interns that joined the RBS rugby team for instance. There are definitely opportunities for the people that wants to get involved in a sport etc. There is also a gym at the campus which costs 27£ for 6 weeks when they have discounts (with a swimming pool).
