The Role
Thoroughly enjoyable internship, with team members offering regular exposure to the real-world work that they carry out. Alongside the work on the desk, there are also frequent opportunities to meet with Barclays employees from across the bank.
The whole team were incredibly friendly throughout the internship - even people who aren't on your team are willing to offer you help or guidance.
Line managers, graduate buddies and mentors are all very supportive and offer regular tips and advice to help the intern get the most out of their time at Barclays.
There's a great balance between working on the desk and being given opportunities to meet with people from outside of your team. Your time is really what you make of it, if you're proactive about meeting people you'll find your calendar soon fills up!
Colleagues offer great opportunities to learn and then take on responsibility. This is done in a way which offers challenge whilst ensuring that the work doesn't become overwhelming.
The skills gained and developed during the Barclays internship will be invaluable both back at university and beyond. Whether it be soft skills, such as networking, or a keen analytical eye, these skills are sure to stand you in good stead in future.
The Company
The atmosphere was far more laid back than I had expected when coming into the office. People are happy to share a joke whilst also making sure that the work gets done.
The organisation of the internship was fantastic, with regular events and development opportunities organised alongside the work done with your team.
A plethora of personal training and development opportunities are offered throughout the internship, both formal and informal which are offered by people within, and outside of, Barclays.

There are a wide range of opportunities on offer with Barclays and interns are presented with the opportunity to gain a place on the graduate scheme if they perform well.
The Culture
Interns regularly go for lunch and after-work drinks which can be a good opportunity to share experiences and hear about the work that others are carrying out.
As with anywhere in London, living and socialising in Canary Wharf isn't cheap! However, the internship is well paid meaning you can afford to live and socialise in the area.
As with anywhere in London, there are good opportunities to enjoy the nightlife.
Barclays offers a host of activities, but interns are also keen to do things amongst themselves outside of work.
