    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I found the placement really enjoyable. The culture was incredible with everyone being nice, and these includes the employees, the interns and the grads. Being paired up with a grad as a buddy is really useful as well and the work they give you provides you with a real sense of accomplishment.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues are extremely nice and they always are willing to talk and help me out. They explain things clearly and take the time out willingly. There is also regular feedback within the bank as well as people who are more senior taking the time to see how you are getting along and talk about what you have and want to accomplish.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The management was extremely good. They check up on you at the beginning and at the end of the week as a minimum which is really useful as it helps summarises what you need to do and what you have done. Also, they always respond to emails or instant messages straight away meaning whenever you need help they will always be there.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was not too busy as I felt I could handle more but this was also because at the beginning it took time to set up with network access and what not. However, they do give you real tasks which makes you feel you are accomplishing something of real value.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The level of responsibility was quite significant and they trust you to get on with your work. They will not be on your shoulder constantly, however if you do require their help they will also be there. However, I felt that I could have been given more at certain points during the internship.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I do not think the job training will help me in my degree studies, however the skills you learn in terms of time management, being proactive and networking will help in general life. Therefore, in terms of beyond, the skills I learnt will greatly help, especially with the advise of always growing your network.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office I was in was extremely modern with the advise to sit wherever you want with a laptop. I felt it was almost like Google or a technology company and this is where I believe the company is heading. It encourages the idea of being proactive and networking which I think is really good.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was really well structured. For this year there was an intern project which all interns had to do and there are also three objectives which are set by your line manager depending on what division you are based in. These objectives will be what you work on throughout the weeks.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I think there could have been more training and development in terms of skills learnt however there were more skills in terms of developing character and skill traits which they focus on more. By this I mean things such as networking and being proactive which they encourage strongly and certain other aspects such as being an innovator.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • They encourage a potential graduate scheme which is good.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes there were several intern socials as well as all the interns being extremely nice and getting along providing a strong social scene. Some people will go to a bar after work on Friday were there is happy hour and during the work day sometimes the interns sit together which is nice.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As it was in London it was quite expensive.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There was no clubbing nightlife but very good bars.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not really.
