The Role
I have had an invaluable placement experience with Faurecia. I have gained and developed many skills and have gained practical experience in a professional working environment. I enjoyed the tasks I was given, (some more than others), and as a result I would consider working in finance moving forward. In addition, my team were a joy to work with and overall the experience was very positive.
I was introduced and welcomed by my team very well. I definitely felt valued by my colleagues and we all worked very well as part of a team and had a good working environment. Not once did I feel like I was 'just a placement student'.
I was definitely supported and guided by my manager, any questions I had about the work or the company in general, I felt very comfortable asking.
The tasks I was given kept me fairly busy on a day to day basis. If I wanted to be shown something new all I had to do was ask, as there was plenty of other tasks to be done and to get involved in. The only thing I would say is sometimes some tasks could feel quite repetitive
The tasks given definitely held a degree of responsibility to them and the further into the placement I got, the responsibility associated with tasks did slightly increase.
I have gained and developed many transferrable skills and can comfortably say I have used these skills in a professional working environment and provide examples as back up. I will utilize these skills in both my final year and any roles I take on moving forward.
The Company
The office atmosphere was perfect, it had a good balance. There were quiet period which allowed you to concentrate and get on with your tasks but times when you would talk and joke with your colleagues
There is a designated handover period which helps introduce you to the new role. But overall, the placement feels like a normal job, where you are responsible for undertaking tasks assigned to you.
My colleagues and manager would mainly show me how to undertake new tasks. However, there were online courses you could undertake. You could also go into competition with your colleagues in some of the topics.
There are two main employment opportunities with Faurecia after the placement, one being the Graduate scheme and the other; the international scheme. Both of which sound very good!
The Culture
It was good to have a group of students all doing our placements at the same time in different departments.
I would say the cost of living was average or slightly above
The area is quite small but there are quite a few pubs and one or two bars
There were one or two opportunities like a running club and football once a week but overall not too much
