The Role
I really enjoyed the opportunity to use state-of-the-art scientific equipment to pioneer new scientific techniques.
All my colleagues were very professional and I felt valued throughout my placement. GSK has a positive environment which makes it easy to share your ideas.
My supervisor was excellent and provided me with sufficient guidance to successfully complete all my assigned projects and develop myself as a scientist.
The amount of work that I had varied depending on how many active projects needed to be completed so there were definitely weeks where I was quite busy and weeks where I had less work to do. However, the less busy weeks were useful to work on my university assignments.
I was given a reasonable amount of responsibility throughout my placement. I was running all of my own experiments and I was held responsible for completing my tasks by their respective deadlines.
I gained a wide variety of scientific and transferable skills which will definitely aid my employability in the future.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was quite good. Everyone was very helpful and there was also definitely a good social environment within the office.
The placement was very well organized. I was trained on all the necessary techniques needed to be successful in completing the projects I was assigned.
There was definitely plenty of time that was set aside to develop as a scientist and a professional in the workplace. This included self branding workshops and scientific writing workshops. There was also the opportunity to explore areas other than your own in the company.

I would definitely like to come back and work for GSK. GSKs
The Culture
There is plenty of opportunities to socialize with fellow placement students throughout the year. There is a GSK IP Unite group that organizes social events for all GSK students.
Stevenage is a bit expensive for what it is most likely due to the fact that it is close to London.
The Stevenage nightlife isn't great, however, there is a train to London which takes about 25 minutes.
There are plenty of sports activities on offer after work at GSK. There are also social clubs and sports club in Stevenage that one can join.
