The Role
Thoroughly enjoyed my year at jaguar land rover made some great connections and people I would call friends whilst gaining amazing industey experience and skills which a degree could not teach you .
My team went above and beyond to help me with any issues I had from day one and throughout my year they consistently helped me with my professional development by helping me with professional schemes and by checking my work before presenting etc they always asked about my life and always involved me with work events
My manager was supportive and understanding in every situation if anyone in my team had responsibilities which took priority over work he would understand and help us work around this I also felt comfortable asking for more work/more support from if necessary and could speak to him regarding any issue
The first few months were very dry workload wise I didn't have much as my project was dependant on training which I had to wait for however I spoke to my manager about this and he assigned me projects to follow and help out on however I still wasn't massively busy as my project progressed I began to have more work
I was given the responsibility of implementing and developing a new project for my department I was mostly left to myself to carry this out however had management support when required as the project progressed I was also given the responsibility to train others.
Soft professional skills and experience gained during internship invaluable and I would say the experience better than anything I have learnt through my degree . Not necessarily degree related as they accept a wide variety of degrees but related to general professions
The Company
Atmosphere great at the beginning had a very large team however this died down towards the end of placement due to people leaving and not being replaced.
My experience personally fine however I do know of other students who were placed in departments with no prior work plan for them. They had nothing to do all day and actually left placement early. Placement experience shouldn't be so dependant on what department you are placed in managers should submit a full work plan before accepting a student
Attended training courses based in the Midlands and had all expenses paid for. I was the only person in my department to receive specific training and so was trusted and invested in massively with this. I also trained to be an environmental auditor.
Above 25 days holiday
On finishing placement you are subject to a review and your manager is asked whether they would rehire you . You are then fast tracked to graduate positions based off this.
The Culture
In the halewood plant no there's hardly any interaction however in the Midlands where most students are based I gathered there was a good social scene
I lived at home for the year so very cheap. Liverpool is a great city for nightlife and socialising anyway and overall would be cheaper than the Midlands
Liverpool one of the best cities in the UK for nightlife, food, culture .
Not many opportunities
