The Role
I am really enjoying my internship with RBS. The work is diverse and interesting and I feel like I am constantly challenged, which is allowing me to develop and learn new skills.
I felt really valued by my colleagues. I was given plenty of tasks with lots of responsibility. All my colleagues are really friendly and are helping me to learn to get the most out of my experience. They also ask me for input on what they are working on which makes me feel even more valued.
I was given so much support by my manager. She is really approachable so I have no trouble with asking her any questions I have, which is helping me to learn and make the most out of my experience. She regularly checks how I am managing my workload, and she has really helped to make me happy in my role.
I found that I was really busy, which I liked as the days went really quickly and I felt challenged. Looking back on the amount and quality of work I did in such a short time frame has been really rewarding.
I was given a lot of responsibility during my internship, including being solely responsible for the analysis and reporting of product pilot data both internally and to merchants. I also organised events both internally and internally for my team. However, whilst I was given lots of responsibility, I still felt like I had lots of support from my colleagues and could ask them for help if needed.
The skills I have gained during my internship are definitely transferrable. I have greatly improved my team working skills, my data analysis skills, my research skills, as well as many more. I have also greatly improved my presentation skills as I have presented to various different people during my internship.
The Company
The atmosphere in my office was great. Everybody was really nice and I felt comfortable speaking to people out of my department. On my floor, there were also lots of activities, such as an Innovation event, sports day, raffles and numerous cake sales.
I was given a clear structure by my line manager at the start of the internship with my objectives. She then listed tasks she wanted me to help with whilst on my internship and how they linked to my overarching objectives. I couldn't have wished for any better organisation.
I feel very invested in. The internship started with a 2 day induction in Edinburgh, with the travel and accommodation paid for by RBS. I found this training to be really valuable and prepared me with the right mindset to begin my 10 week internship.
Sports and Social Club
I am still awaiting to find out the outcome of my internship, as I have not yet finished. But last year, 88% of interns received an offer on the graduate scheme, so the future job prospects are excellent!
The Culture
The rest of the interns and graduates were really friendly and there were regular social events organised by the graduate council. As well as the monthly socials (which were formally organised), lots of the interns and graduates informally went out for a drink as well, so there was definitely an excellent social scene.
I lived at home with my parents and commuted for the duration of my internship so cannot provide valid insight into the cost of living. But, with socialising, the price was fair.
My internship was based in Manchester. I would say that there is an excellent and diverse nightlife in Manchester so would definitely recommend.
There were several opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work. I know that there was an intern/ graduate 8-a-side football training session.
