The Role
I really enjoyed my placement year, I have learnt a lot and have had the chance to visit site I was surprised by how much "real" work i have been doing
The company culture at Mott MacDonald is very inclusive, and I have been really welcomed into my team I attend lots of team meetings where I feel my opinion is listened to Its a really nice feeling
My team is quite large, and very busy but despite this i have regular catch ups with my line manager I sit with some graduate engineers who have been looking after me and one of them was also a placement student a couple of years ago so its been good to see where I could end up in the near future
At the beginning there was a lot of online training, which can be quite boring but it is only for 1-2 days and so it is over quickly. Once that was out of the way i was given lots of tasks to get done and its been a learning curve juggling lots of demands from different people
I have been given some responsibility during my placement year in terms of managing my own workload and projects. I have also managed my own time, so no one is telling me what i should be doing when, or when to go for lunch, it is more this is what needs doing can you get this done by X.
I have learn how to be more efficient with my time and how to multi-task more successfully Its been great to be in the sort of environment where i was to be after I graduate so that i am more focused on my end goal
The Company
My floor and area is quite busy and we have lots of young people so there is a nice atmosphere and general chatter. There are times when everyone is busy and working hard so its quiet but people still chat There are always things happening at lunchtime, whether it is table tennis or pizza lunches
The first couple of days are very structured because of the online training, after that I felt like a was integrated in part of team, i was given plenty of work to do and i felt like i made a genuine contribution
I felt that the team and the company took a genuine interest in me and my goals, I felt they invested a lot of their time in me. I also got to take part in lots of their online training modules and lunchtime training sessions Its one of those placements where you get the most out of things if you throw yourself into everything

I would be really happy to have a graduate role here and i think by doing my placement year here hopefully this will work well when i apply in my final year
The Culture
There was always Friday drinks when some of us went out after work, it was more popular on payday! Lunchtimes were also very sociable and we would try out lots of different food places
I stay at home for my placement so i was aware of what living costs would be like It is South London so more expensive than some places
I grew up in the area so i knew what the nightlife was like, Croydon isn't too bad but London is only a short train ride away so it does depend on what you want to do plenty of bars and restaurants
There was always CSR opportunities and events to help out in, i helped at a school event There is also a sports and social team who arrange lots of discounted events like theatre trips, ascot, tulleys farms etc
