The Role
Really enjoyed learning about the different areas and job opportunities in a pharmaceutical industry. Learnt a lot, and was able to put my university learning into practice.
Staff at GSK were very welcoming and supportive. Very keen to help out.
Supervisor was extremely helpful throughout the entirety of my placement. Provided a lot of guidance and support.
Fairly busy, however you got out as much as you put in. There was always work to be done, and I never had a day were I was left to do nothing.
Responsibility for your own chemistry and work. They allowed you to choose the chemistry you wanted to do, which was challenging but also rewarding. In terms of the project as a whole less responsibility was expected.
Learnt skills that would help with future work in chemistry, and also provided context to the work I have done at university. I learnt a lot about working in a large organisation and 'soft' skills like presentations and contributing to team meetings.
The Company
Atmosphere was relaxed. Great place to work in!
The placement was well organised. The project and aims were explained in detail at the beginning, and so I was aware what was expected of me. The company also set up induction days to help settle in.
It was difficult to look at other areas of the company owing to its size. Company invested a lot of time and training into each individual.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Quite appealing.
The Culture
Placement students had groups set up and socials once a month (give or take).
