The Role
It was very valuable in terms of the steep learning curve
I came more close to my collegues in the second team compared to the first which also made me feel more valued. However, everyone was very friendly
Always received guidance when needed
It was a very big mix between being busy and bored. During the summer the market can be more slow. However, the more experienced you get within the team, the more responsibility you get, meaning that the hours typically becomes longer/
Through the internship I got more responsibility over time. However, because 4-5 weeks within a team is a rather short time, it's hard to take a lot of responsibility over something
In one of my rotation I learned a lot about time management which is relevant for everything you do in life. In the other rotation I learned more about loans, financing and contractual agreements, which I believe will help me in studies as well as in myfuture career.
The Company
First team it was more stressful,, because we are highly active in the live market and must follow everything that's going on. In the second team the atmosphere was more relaxed and friendly as people had more time to speak and were overall less busy during the day
There were a lot of intern events in the beginning of the internship where you got to know everyone starting with you. For a person not from the UK, this was very relieving and good as you could sty in contact with them throughout your time. Regarding work, the internship was well structure in terms of people eager to educate you, take coffees and network with you, as well as giving you tasks on a more and more advanced level
There was a well organized training during the first week of the internship. Furthermore, for each of my rotations, goals were set up and followed up on, which can really help you access your performance over time
Subsidised Canteen
I believe that you can develop a lot within Citi. However, because you spend a lot of time in the office, it is very important that you actually enjoy spending time with your colleagues.
The Culture
Yes, every Friday many analysts/ associates across the bank were meeting out in the bar just outside of office
I lived 20 min from work and didn't pay much, however, my place was not the best and I would recommend finding living with someone you know rather than strangers
Unfortunately the bars around Canary Wharf closes before 12, so if you want to stay longer than that you will have to go to the City centre instead. However, for after work events there are many nice places to choose from
I never had to work in weekends, meaning that I could do whatever I wanted during them. However, for weekdays, it is hard to plan activities outside your team in advance as you can't know for sure in advance how long you'll have to stay
