The Role
The placement was fantastic and taught me more about engineering than the past 2 years at university have. The job was both extreamly difficult and extreamly rewarding and I would recomend it to anyone wanting to take a placement year.
I was able to get to know the team very well, participating in work socials and out of office events throughout the year. Everyone in the office know I was a placement student but treated me like any other member of full time staff.
Support from the entire office was always readily availible when asked. Everyone is willing to help ease your work and get the job done.
I was allowed to manage my own workload and be responsible for my own projects within the Qualification team. This ensuered that I was always busy but also able to get involved in additional training/projects based on my own drive.
I was treated like any other member of full time staff (not like a student). After 4 months of learning the ropes, I was given responsibility of projects, to write any documentation and communicate with test houses and manufacturing to ensure that deadlines were met.
The training I was given at Pall has taught and developed me more than I had ever thought. It had provided me with confidence and knowledge in my engineering ability that will stay with me for life.
The Company
The office was constantly working hard to meet deadlines however still made time to relax and reward staff for good work.
The placement year started a bit slowly (unplanned) however this quickly turned around and was given a good structure of training and development.
I was provided with formal training sessions on a varity of engineering aspects at least once per month and managed to get involved with hands on work both at my office and at test facilities

Pall Aerospace are constanly recruiting placement studnets (on average 1 in 3 get offered a job) for graduate positions. I plan to stay in contact with Pall to discuss this further.
The Culture
All 8 placement students in my office got to know each other very well and communicated/met up regularly. The other students in my department managed to build a great social aspect to the placement year.
Living in Portsmouth was fairly resonable, especially when working on a full time salary.
The nightlife in Portsmouth is always busy with a large variety of things to do during the evening.
I was always getting involved in work socials or meeting up with colleges/university friends to do something in my free time.
