The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, from both a professional and a social aspect. As an intern, I was given a significant amount of responsibility, equal to that of a full-time employee and this was extremely encouraging. I was given the ability to make key, important decisions with a significant business impact and having this responsibility made the job extremely enjoyable.
I felt like my colleagues treated with the utmost respect and valued my input in key decisions. Moreover, they were willing to trust me with greater responsibilities as the placement progressed and helped grow an enjoyable work environment over the year.
My team and manager were very welcoming during the transition period of my placement. We had regularly one on one meetings to discuss my progress as well as if there were any difficulties I was facing. She encouraged me to be open regarding my workload and let me know where I was doing well. However, what helped most was she have critical yet constructive comments on my work which enabled me to improve far quicker.
The workload throughout the year grew as the year progressed, with greater time came more responsibility in task and projects. Interns are also encouraged to be proactive in looking for work and offering assistance when they have spare capacity to someone else in the team, this is helpful as you can apply yourselves to different areas which you are not primarily involved with. This enabled me to explore different business units and get involved with the STEM committee.
I believe I was given a high level of responsibility in the team, which in turn enabled my progression. A healthy level of pressure made me driven to complete tasks. I was also involved with budgets and make sure they are tracked and spent through the correct processes. As the year progressed I was handed an increasing level of responsibility. It understandably required some time before I was given these opportunities.
The internship has provided me with commercial awareness and will assist me towards my degree when I go back to university for my final year, I feel that my confidence has also risen as a result. The skills that I have developed from this internship are invaluable to my future career
The Company
Intel has a brilliant work culture and I never felt the tension or nervousness when approaching senior colleagues, with its open-door policy. The atmosphere is pleasant and each department works well together to achieve the final goal. Furthermore, it enables growth by listening to the input from all members of a team no matter what experience.
This work placement has been very well organised. There are lots of things throughout the year that are set up for the interns to progress with both learning and social events. The structure allows you to both grow your professional capacity and your social interactions.
The company invests a lot of time and effort into its interns to enable them to process quickly throughout their 13 months. Regular training is scheduled throughout the year in a variety of skills including presentation skills, excel competency and even programming for nontechnical interns. Intel further paid for my travel to go to conferences of my interest such as AI and Tech UK events, to educate me on different areas of the business.

The year-long placement acts as a year-long interview and this gives you the best possible chance to show the company why you want to work for them and vice-versa, with a strong number of graduates being hired every year
The Culture
There was a great intern community at Intel, with over 50 Interns at the Swindon site. There is also 6 weeks of handover so for 6 weeks there are around 100 interns on-site with events planned every week
In comparison to Uni rent, Swindon is very cheap and we had the opportunity to stay in a nice house in a nice area of Swindon. Generally going to eat and drink in Old town is very cheap and good quality. It is important to make sure you are in a nice area with a well-built house.
Not very good. Swindon has a few clubs and bars which are used for nights out. We often went to Bristol or Bath which aren't far away when we wanted to go out.
Intel offers many opportunities outside of your job role and in different business units
