About You
I really enjoyed my four weeks at KPMG interning in the Solutions and Digital Department. The overall experience was really enjoyable and insightful. I got to experience the office in two locations which really increased my knowledge of what it is like to work within the firm. The fellow colleagues were all really nice and friendly.
I did. All the staff were very welcoming on our first day and did not make us feel like interns and that we were just here for a short period of time. The environment really helped adjusting to the work and tasks we were set. The amount of support per task also made them feel much more achievable.
Throughout our whole 4 weeks we were given a smart contact who helped before we joined the firm, a buddy who chatted to us through the duration to have catch ups, a performance manager who set us tasks and assigned us teams. My main point of contact was my PM who really helped with every thing.
The skills I acquired will definitely help me beyond my degree as they taught me how to handle tasks in a working office environment. I was given a lot of tasks which developed my soft skills in particular such as powerpoint work and excel, but adapted to the department I was working in.
The Company
The details surrounding the vacation scheme were not as detailed as I would have liked, especially the description of the departments. I think there should be more choice surrounding what department you enter and surrounding joining dates and instructions. The structure of the tasks however was organised and well formed.
It was really enjoyable. It gets rid of the misconceptions formed of the firm and really intrigued me further to working here. I did a Women in Tech insight week so it was really useful in regards to knowing the office beforehand and also my fellow interns. The exposure to the London and Manchester office also really helped in terms of comparisons of working environments. I would definitely recommend to other students.
We were sent to London for 2 quarterly meetings which really helped expand our knowledge of the team and the work they are undergoing as well as the projects. This was funded and expensed. We were given access to the learning portal where we were able to do training videos.
We spent the whole time working with grads and higher grades - within the same office space. Being given the same work and opportunities as them really helped increase insight and it was worthwhile. We were put into teams doing really important projects and got to shadow managers whilst they worked. It was all a very accurate representation.
The company culture became very clear and apparent. During the 4 weeks you understand fully the nature of the people within the company and how they all feature the core values of KPMG. The company culture exists surrounding the core values. The summer internship really provides an in depth insight of the firm
Everything Else
We were paid for the 4 weeks and reimbursed expenses when we were travelling down to other offices or client sites. The overall travel and hotel were booked through company - we got expensed for dinner and tubes etc
We got to go to many networking meetings throughout the 4 weeks
the networking events were really good - there could have been more socials but I think it was due to the amount of travelling we had to do
The volunteering insight was really interesting to find out about
I would definitely recommend to a friend but further recommend they enter through an insight or spring week
